I Tried to Go Fishing! Too COLD for Realistic Fishing

I tried to go fishing but it was too cold, even for Realistic Fishing. I thought I would brave the cold and head to the park to catch some cold water fish. I was wrong. It was so cold I didn’t even get one bite! Typically I could catch a bluegill or a bass, but on this winter day, there was nothing. I tried by the boat launch and also by the log. I end up skunked and do a lure unboxing instead. I picked up some lures at Academy Sports, but even that wasn’t great. It is supposed to snow soon, so the fishing won’t get any better.

  1. I went the other day. I couldn't feel my index finger. I went and sat in truck for a few minutes and then went back and fixed. I repeated that cycle for most of the day. I only caught one fish…

  2. It's winter.. besides, who down there fishes in down filled parkas and snow pants in mukluks and mittens?? Trout at the river might bite but… still miserable exercise unless they bite like gangbusters and are extra lage and really show off with fights and beautiful colors..take care and be realistic in the miserable moments too.. can tie flies and fish them with spinning gear and split shot should you feel like that challenge is worth your efforts.. thanks for doing the show with honest and realism missing elsewhere sir..

  3. It’s been so cold in North Carolina I’m watching this Friday night and it’s snowing here also! I still love watching when you don’t catch because you’re great on commentary!! Keeps us entertained! Keep it Realistic!.

  4. Back in the late Fifties or early Sixties, my dad tried to fish in a nearby river when the air-temperature was SEVENTEEN DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. He said that he had to stop because the DROPS of water from the river were FREEZING on the FISHING-LINE, and gumming-up his REEL. 😁

  5. I'm the same way. Every thing here in Ohio is iced over. Time to sit inside bored watching fishing channels and buying more baits/lures that I probably don't need! 😂 It helps get through fishing withdrawals.

  6. I have not been fishing for a little bit; we had confirmed bird flu and dead geese in the local waterways and I don't want to inadvertently bring any of that home to get my chickens sick. Better luck next time!

  7. I'm sure you'd rather be catching fish, but I do appreciate that you are still willing to post a video of a "Not So Great Day" It just shows you are Real, just like the channel says. Cool lure grab at Academy. Thanks as always for the content. KiR!!!

  8. Reminds of the time I went trout fishing with my dad and uncle in 19 degree weather with the wind coming down the cliffs where we were at lol. I could watch the ice form on the reel

  9. It's been a few years, but i used to go out in winter here in South Dakota. Almost always some wind here, especially along the river. Gets frickin' cold! But i'd be so amped to be fishing that i'd stay out there for hours, sometimes into the night. I found that the rubber dipped cotton gloves were ok but the best are neoprene ice fishing gloves. Could reach into the ice cold water and not even feel it! Only problem is they don't last all that long (the neoprene ones) due to holes from hooks. I once started around 10am and caught nothing until about 4pm, right when the blue sky shifted just slightly to that polarized tone. I caught 5 Northern Pike in quick succession, but after about a total of 30min the color faded to dusky twilight and the bite ended. Hey, i might've froze my arse but i wouldn't have starved! Keep It Realistic!!!

  10. I know I'm so sad it's a frozen tundra here and we got more snow coming Friday I watch somebody else fishing on a beautiful lake and I was like crying keep it realistic Alex we'll keep looking for you

  11. We got upgraded to winter storm warning just half an hour ago.. Maybe it will get me out of work for a day! I'm planning to grill out for my birthday this weekend in the snow! Everyone in the path of this storm better stock up on beer before everything shuts down!

  12. I took a shot at the stocked rainbows here in Texas in the cold and caught my first fish of the year. 29° degrees is cold, but I'd still give it a go for the rainbows, stay warm Alex! And yes go for trout, the bass and panfish can wait!👍

  13. Over here at the moment we are at -3°C which is about 26°F but when you love to go fishing you still have a go in all weather. This is another realistic thng about being born with the fishing gene…..you just have to go. KIR

  14. Give a thought to some rubber boot/hip waders , i fish i fair number of public pond like this and i often find that just being able to get a few feet from the bank can really open up some casting opportunities and catch some fish that the last person couldn't quite get to.

  15. I just bought a Zippo hand warmer so I can keep fishing….the walleye and hybrids here in Missouri will keep biting unless we get sub-zero temps. And I agree…wet gloves suck. Keep it realistic!
