I Tested 3 Trailers on the Most Popular Summer Bait From a Kayak

I took one ½ oz black-and-blue Z-Man Elite EVO out of the kayak and tested it with three completely different trailers to see which one performs best during summer bass fishing.

The three trailers are:

• YUM Christie Craw in black with blue fleck
• Zoom Shimmer Shad in Hot Zalamés
• H2O X Swimmer 3.8 inch in Green Pumpkin Pearl Lamé

I’ll compare each trailer around cover, grass, docks, and open water while looking at profile, vibration, fall rate, water-column control, and reaction bites when the Chatterbait breaks free from a snag.

The Christie Craw gives the bait a bulkier, more jig-like profile. The Shimmer Shad creates a slimmer baitfish presentation. The H2O X Swimmer gives the Evo a more traditional swimbait profile.

I’ll also show you how I retrieve the JackHammer from a kayak, when I use a steady retrieve, when I switch to rip-and-stop, and how I flip it into cover like a jig.

The real question is simple: which trailer would I actually keep tied on for summer bass?
