I Lost the Fish That Could’ve Won Me the Tournament… | ABA Potholes Reservoir

One fish can change everything… and this one did.

After two full days of practice on Potholes Reservoir, it was finally time to put everything to the test at the ABA Potholes – July 11 Tournament.

Fishing solo while my dad, Santos, competed at Roosevelt, I had to make every decision on my own. The morning started with heartbreak after losing a big fish that could’ve changed the entire day.

By noon, everything changed.

A 4.6-pound largemouth hit the deck and suddenly I was back in the hunt. Confidence came rushing back, but tournament fishing has a way of keeping you humble.

In the end, I brought 16.26 pounds to the scales and finished 7th place—just short of where I wanted to be, but another step forward in the journey.

Every tournament is another lesson. Every cast is another opportunity.
