I LOST Every Bass… But This Is The Reality of Bass Fishing BC

Today’s adventure didn’t exactly go as planned… 😅

I took my girlfriend and our little dinghy out to explore a new lake here in British Columbia that we’ve barely fished before. After stopping by Cabela’s to grab a few more Lunkerhunt Popping Frogs (my favorite topwater frog lure right now), I was feeling confident. These frogs have caught me some awesome bass recently, so I figured they would do the trick again.

Well… the fish had other plans.

This trip was one of those days that reminds you why fishing is called fishing—not catching. I had multiple explosive topwater bass blowups, including what looked like some really solid largemouth bass, but I managed to lose every single one. 🤦‍♂️ After losing four fish, I finally realized my drag was set way too loose, and by then the damage was already done.

To make things even worse, my trout setup was getting bites too… and somehow I managed to lose those fish as well. If there was a way to turn hookups into heartbreak, I found it!

Despite getting completely humbled, I still had an awesome day on the water. My new ProFISHiency Alpha Pup baitcaster absolutely impressed me. Once I got it dialed in, it cast lightweight finesse lures effortlessly and felt incredibly smooth compared to my heavier fiberglass setups. It’s lighter, more comfortable, and honestly just a blast to fish with. Unfortunately, I couldn’t christen it with its first bass… this time.

Bass fishing is still something I’m learning every trip, so if you’ve got any tips for topwater frog fishing, hooksets, drag settings, or landing more fish, drop them in the comments! I’d genuinely love to hear your advice.

I also wanted this video to show the reality of being an outdoor creator. Not every trip ends with giant fish or viral catches. Honestly, most of my fishing days end with missed opportunities, skunks, or footage that never even makes it onto YouTube. That’s just part of the journey, and I think it’s important to share those moments too.

Thanks so much for watching, and I hope this video reminds you that even when things don’t go your way, getting outside, spending time with the people you care about, and learning something new is always worth it.

🎣 Tight lines, everyone!
