I hold my spools with my toes too lol. First time my girlfriend saw me do this she laughed hysterically but it has always worked out just find for me!
There are some great videos by the Salt Strong guys for spinning rods with backing. They recommend and I always use a pencil through the center hole of the line spool to avoid the’toe burn’ and a wetted paper towel to hold the tension on the line so my fingers don’t burn.
