I have been fine tuning my belly weighted swimbait fishing for the last couple of years after learning its effectiveness on brush piles and docks on Kentucky Lake. I’ve since taken it all over in my travels and found one of it’s best swimbait rig for applications during the prespawn when those fish are in between staging in a group and spreading out to go spawn.
At this time bass are usually aggressive and trying to feed up on big meals right before they go to the nests. And they often stage on cover just outside of the spawning flats to do this. That makes a weedless swimbait rig so much more effective than a lot of other swimbaits and other conventional lures.
This is part one as it was filmed last March in 2024. I fished this same lake a year later and will share that in Part 2. I managed to catch a 10-pounder on this trip and a bunch of 4 and 5 pounders. Didn’t get the 10 pounder on film except for the release. But will share the pics and all the other catches in part two as well as how I refined my approach in the last year with this setup.
