Catching big prespawn smallmouth with a jerkbait is one of my favorite things to do. In this KVD in the Zone video, learn why this technique is so deadly this time of year. One of the biggest mistakes I see new anglers do when fishing with a jerkbait is moving it with the reel. You always want to move the bait by jerking it with slack in the line at the start to get maximum action.

Awesome video, nice to see you laugh and just having fun. Thanks for bringing us along and showing us how easy it can begin your jerk bait bronze monster limit.
Nicely Done ~ Jerkbaits have been my Jam for a couple of decades. Especially recently, been wearing them out. Like the entire SK KVD line of Jerkbaits too. #realdeal
My father in law and I have been studying your videos! We are going to be chasing smallmouth in a few weeks in michingan. Any color suggestions for michigian we may not know about?!
What line diameter should I look for in 14lb test Kevin
Another good one bro 👊🏻
This is just like my last three outings. I never tied off my matte shad jerkbait ..went out to the lake 3 times in 6 days, and slammed fat pre spawn smallies ALL “evening “ long.. what’s weird here in upstate ny the didn’t really want to hit it til about 3 when the sun got right over this creek point as it sets behind it. Once they started biting it- they were hitting the jerkbait harder than I’ve ever felt. This particular lake these smallmouth only have big panfish and maybe golden shine and some emerald shiner- if there is there isn’t enough for the population- so they eat what’s plentiful- bluegill , perch, maybe even crappies.. given the hard mouths and teeth on these suckers and sheer muscle I’d say they’d kill or very badly stun any size panfish it wants to eat with ease…it was awesome that my jerkbait got to experience that… after the 2nd outing I had tooth rash rings on multiple spots of my jerkbait on in the middle section. Was throwing blue pearl shad LC sp78 -which is a 🔥 discontinued color,in the 10+ft zone, and a KVD J100 in the 3-4 water to my right working both the bank and the creek mouth… what a week. 100s of pounds of smallmouth in a very short period . Thanks Kevin 🐐 you really got me into jerk baiting and it’s true power when you released the shallow running J100. I know it took you years to perfect..but perfect you just may have for a shallow runner..I throw it in inches of water and work it into just a foot or two slowly and methodically and can get jerkbait bites where others can’t. They just can’t say no.
You look like you are having fun and relaxed! Keep up the tips from Holland Mi.
Great video and great tips! A jerkbait is one of my favorite baits to throw all year long! Nobody else does it quite as good as you though! 🐐🐐🐐
Is there a point where you go from a mh rod to a med rod?
KVD you are the master
you know you can use nets now that your retired
This is amazing and can’t wait to see more!!!
Yes
Fish from TC to the bridge have caught fish on jerkbaits but not consistent. Either I can't figure the cadence or just not fishing them in the right place. Seem to catch as many toothies and Wallys as I do Smallmouth. Headed up this weekend to give it another shot.
KVD Very nice
KVD triple grip hooks are the only way to go. Have been using them for years!
