How to Drop Swim: Drop Shot Finesse Swimbaits

Drop Swimming is an easy way to catch finicky fish. Drop swimming combines the Drop Shot technique with an exaggerated leader, drop shot hook and drop shot style cylinder weight. Drop swimming also combines swimbaiting by calling for a down sized 3″ or smaller swimbait.

  1. WOW, this is a smallmouth killer. I used the Nishine drop shot hook and Z-man slim swim and it was almost a fish every cast. Great way to cover a LOT of water.

  2. I just found my New Year's resolution …… "Drop Swimming" ……. courtesy of Lord Zaldain !!! Mark Zona has a similar technique he calls "Power shotting". Zona's is more of a reaction strike method since he uses 1/2 ounce up to an ounce. Now that i am in Tennessee (Snagville) I like your use of a cylinder/pencil style weight Chris :)))

  3. Caught a bunch with the 3" Hazedong using this technique a few days ago. Only problem was every time I landed the fish the swimbait was nowhere to be found. I went through a bag and a half in an hour.

  4. hey chris, I was wondering if this technique would work on Socal lakes? do you have any recommendations for some tips and tricks the lakes down in San Diego area for this kind of drop shot?

  5. Chris, I started drop shotting 3 yrs ago here in CA. My question is about hook and line twist. The only hook i have ever used for drop shotting a small swimbait or a work is the VMC Spinshot Dropshot Hook. Glenn May from bass resource turned me onto this hook. The hook avoids line twist.
I dont think I get line twist. Have you ever tried this hook. I was wondering if i should use another hook if there is an occasion for it? Or as they say, if its not broke, dont fix it. Do u have any feedback for me?
