I have been watching your videos for years and this is one of your best videos.
I wanna say thank you. I've watched you for years, even before social media. I hate slow fishing, weenie worming, jigs etc. But the past few weeks I've been flipping jigs and I'm hooked. I built several jigs last year but just wouldn't tie one on but after your videos I finally did. So thank you sir for your wisdom.
I seem to have this spidey sense of feeling a fish strike. Idk if it's from perch fishing Lake Erie or what. I always used cheap k mart rods for years and would catch limits while others in the boat lost minnow after minnow. Now that I kayak bass fish and got Kastking rods I can literally feel rocks and sticks and muck on the bottom and also when a fish bites. I been trying to let a fish (tap tap) a couple times extra to help not lose fish. My favorite so far is a Buckeye spot remover shakey. It always sets the hook perfectly. I will miss fish on a wacky though sometimes. I need to be more patient I think but I just want to set the hook when I feel a fish bite.

For a slow bait, It's a fineline between waiting too long and not setting the hook quick enough. You will not out feel a bass. You will lose every time trying to play touchy feely with bass. When in doubt, set the hook. You'd be surprised how many times a bass can suck in the bait and spit it out without you ever even knowing it.
Got a couple of Solarbat on the way. Thank RB.
Hook sets are free! You feel the tick, load the line then set the hook! Obviously if the line is moving then you have something on.
Also that always work for me if im not sure if it was a rock or bite i reel uo slack and feel for pressure
Also i use light tackle snd u will feel a Bluegill hit
Good stuff , thanks for this video !
Randy you should buy Matt stefans boat he has for sale
How about a video on, how you know when your lure is on the bottom? In calm water, windy, bouncing on the bottom and anything else. 🤔
Great tips. In my 45+ years also depends a lot on the mood of the fish
Most fish I lose happens when I try to winch them in. Once clear of cover or snags I always ease up and play it out.
I have not had many problems detecting bites. I often use mono and fiberglass Ugly Stik rods. Still feel the hits.
Kinda feel like smallies are a lot different. They swallow it a lot more often in my experience.
Thanks friend, I just book marked your tack warehouse link! I enjoy your wisdom and videos! Thanks a bunch👍🏻🇺🇸
This is spot on. I was fishing a jig on riprap. I lifted my rod and it felt like my line had been cut. No jig there. So I started reeling in slack and there’s a fish on. I set the hook land the fish. The bass picked up my jig and swam to the boat. I never felt a bite. It was incredible.
You’ve had some great videos lately that didn’t have to do with livescope!
This is a great video.
It helps a lot! Thank you
One thing above all others has made me detect bites better: fishing rivers (and I mean, IN the river via wading). When you can learn to feel a bite on slack line in current, fishing “still” water becomes almost (almost!) easy.
I felt like my jig was sliding down a branch couple weeks ago and next thing I felt was a hard tick, when the bass spit it out. That one did not hang on to it long
Bottom baits , jigs , Texas rigs , Tubes you do not want to tight line the fish neither cause if you do she will spit it out
The more you fish the better you will get on feeling a strike !
Randy, you may have done one on this in the past but could you go over the hook sequence on fishing a topwater frog.
Hardest detection is when pitching into cover. My partner can feel a bite when the line is still dropping.
I usually hook a fish halfway though its intestine, I leave it so late trying to feel the bite!
So much easier said than done, this is without a doubt my biggest problem
Your telling me for 40 years I could have waited a few seconds to set the hook.
