Great video, Thanks !
Been fishing for years, as a kid, then back into it seriously about years ago. To the Point 30,40% of spring and fall, in chasing walleye on my boat.
I know my spots, how to fish them, and do pretty good for myself.
Spent enough time talking to locals, and many, many, hours on the water practicing, learning.
But…
I only k ow my spots, a 3 way rig, and getting between at different tones of jigging live bait.
2 years ago, I started to hit Depere,WI, with a friend.
Other than messing around, throwing floating Rapala's@, 3/8 jig w/plastics, I have no idea what I'm doing, or even talking about when it comes to lures or colors.
I promised myself that this spring, once walleye season slows, I'd learn new things, fish new waters for different types of fish.
You gave a lot of info about colors and why, especially the red and clearer baits.
That helped a lot !
Just a suggestion…
If you haven't already, maybe talk about different the different types of lures.
There's articles and video out there. But not a whole lot.
I think you'd make a great video on the types like top water, crankbaits, jerk baits, etc.
I honestly couldn't tell you what was what.
Floating and suspending, depth, is kind of else explanatory, if I'm not missing anything.
Just something I don't think most weekend fisherman know about.
I'm a little more than your weekender, and tend to put walleye beofre anything in life, besides making money to go fishing…lol
But, I have a while lot to learn.
Take me out of my environment, places I've fished, and been taught how to fish…
I feel like a dunce !
Fishing pretty much saved my life.
I was down dark path, way out there, killing myself with anything that would numb me, until a guy I look up to pretty much kidnapped me on a trip to the Winnebago System. If I wouldn't have gone, I'd probably be dead now.
He's no longer with us, but dod get to see me turn myself around, and buy a great, cheap, used boat, and find what I always loved doing again.
Other than findkng my boat near my bros house, sitting in a driveway under a tarp, looking like an old beat up 14,16ft V….
I found an '81 Smokercraft Pro Fisherman 18.5…
With a '73 Johnson 65hp on it.
Original 35lb motorguide up front.
For $900.. B, M, T…
Being a mechanic, I pulled 300ft of 12ga, Solis house wire out of it, replaced the gas, dumped bottles of Seafoam in every tank, and she's still running great.
Haven't even checked the plugs, in 5 years.
It needs carb cleaning, rebuild, rewiring, and a lot of love.
But, I do a little every week, and she's never let me down.
I have 100's of days on the water.
1000's of hours, even slept on the river, miles from no one a few nights. Lol
Just me n the dog…
And lots of fish.
(A warm, early spring, no mosquitoes !)
FB marketplace has been great.
I have a mid 80s Evinrude 24V cable drive trolling motor, 89 Evinrude 70HP VRO power T/T
(Which I don't have now..
A real pain to pick up OB on the shallows, and get her on plane properly !)
And many other goodies for trolling, kicker, rod/reels, etc.
I have less than $2500 total, have a reliable boat that had a V, been in 3 ft waves, 45+ winds, taking 1.5 hrs to go 1.5 miles, needing to stop 3 times for the bilge to catch up. ( limited out, 3 per day, when no one else caugh a thing, or would go out ! )
And, if I kill myself picking up the OB, I can get into about 10" of water.
V up front, flat across the back.
Kind of the best of both worlds, when it comes to a boat.
And…
Being an 81…
She is a beast. Thick aluminum hull, all around.
Only 2 downsides…
Boat os a little narrow, at 58" external beam , and it was made before computer simulation.
So, it gets to be a very wet ride when any waves are kicking up, plus I get rocked as boats go by.
I can't complain for what I have.
I love it, and many have offered to buy it, for twice what I have into it.
After being rebuilt atleast twice, buy a guy who should go to jail of he touched a screwdriver, I'm about to rebukes her this summer.
Redesign the whole boat, to fit my needs.
It's a single console now, have it set up so I can walk front to back.
Perfect river boat. Plus some !
Once this is done, I'll loo for a 22' walk thru for trolling bigger waters and playing around with the family.
Same way…
But it cheap, abused and beat up.
Build what I want from a strong hull up.
Have exactly what I need, and, for 10% of what any boat that type would cost.
I love the looks I get when they see a 45 year old boat, a classic, with a brand new Helix 9 MSI on her.
Another month, I'll have my 24v Terrova or Ultrex.
Moving the HB Piranha 4 DI up front today, as I'm mounting the new/used 24v TM.
Sorry..lol
Just like you to know what I'm fishing from, and the little I know.
I'm great where I know the place, but new waters, new ways to fish, besides walleye and white bass.
Don't know everything yet, but, I do ok. Just as good as the next guy, usually better.
I need to learn, want to learn everything.
Learn how to fish ither species, other waters, get into Lake Michigan and Erie, go from there.
Rivers are my thing.
I need to learn the lakes, how to fish them, where to start, how to survey a new lake or river, etc.
I don't subscribe to many, at all.
I only follow a few guys who I really understand, and who get to the point right away, vs someone who had a 60 min. vid, tells you a thing here and there, as you see him fill his boat in 2 days, all in 30 second clips.
It can be fun to watch, but, I want to learn.
All they make me want to do is, drop the phone and load up the boat.
You explain everything great.
Your easy to understand, and, more importantly, you explain why..
Why red works, why clear works, why black works.
If you could continue that, for example jerk Bait vs crank bait…
I think you'd build a huge following, and fast.
Plus…
You don't have that Godly attitude like you know everything.
Very few guys are like that.
The only ones I can think of is Tom Boley and the Technical Angler. They are both from my area, or atleastw her I fish the most, and do a pretty good job of teaching. Not showing off.
I wish you the best.
If you ever get over this way, hit me up, , I'll get you on some walleye.
For now…
I'm gona keep learning, fishing, and working on my boat.
Learning the new Helix SI and getting these 70hp and 24v TM mounted, which have been laying in my garage floor 18 months because all I do is work and fish.
20 hrs/week pays the bills, 20 pays for necessities, the other 20,40 hrs per week pays for boat parts and trips.
Working on selling in the city and moving to WI, very soon. Lol
Please keep the videos coming.
Good luck !
Tight lines !
Thanks again !
Great advice.
Thanks. Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Great information thank you
Good vid to “keep the wheels turning” so to speak for increasing success. Tight lines!
Thanks 👍
