How to Bass Fish in Shallow Water

Want to catch more fish?! In this instructional bass fishing video we teach you how to catch more bass in shallow water using two of our favorite bass lures. The two lures we use are the Strike King Mini Buzz bait and a Wacky Worm rig. These two lures are great at catching fish in lily pads and weeds which are so common when bass fishing in shallow water, because it combines the excitement of top water fishing with the proven success of a soft plastic follow up lure. 1. One of my favorite rigs is a 1/8th oz weighted weedless hook, 3" plastic crawdad rigged so the weight is on the belly. Toss it on sandy areas next to heavy cover. Twitch it across the sand, 6 inches or so at a time. Usually blows the bass up in clear water.
Side note: I rig the crawdad on backwards. Bass are smart. Once I started rigging it so the crawdad scuttled backwards, I got more hits.

My other favorite rig is a Hula Popper for dawn and dusk topwater. Topwater strikes just get me going. I also use light tackle, since I enjoy the fight.

  2. Does the wacky worm snag on weeds easily on the bottom because i know from my experience that anything on the bottom is great if it doesn't have a salad with it

  3. This is a cool video but i think you are misleading people the wrong way by telling them they are only gonna catch bass on those 2 lures, maybe try showcasing more than just 2 lures

  4. I live on a lake in western NY, I dont have a boat so its mostly fishing from docks. 1 in particular that i absolutely crush the bass on. I fish a big variety in spring, mostly senkos and have awesome luck. But i'm not quite sure what to throw in the summer time and this lake gets EXTREMELY weedy. Any way you guys could do a video on fishing from docks in Very weedy lakes? any tips or pointers would be awesome!

  5. We throw buzz baits if the conditions are right.  If that doesn't work we throw worms or salamanders and switch to spinner baits reeling faster to keep the bait about two inches under the surface.  This gives the fish a chance to hear and see the bait even if it is windy and top water is out of the question.  Fishing a spinner bait close to the surface never fails! Great video man.
