This are the clearest shots I have ever got of fish! We dropped our camera in a highly pressured warm water discharge that feeds into the Potomac river.
We saw bass, bluegill, catfish, and even some tilapia down there! The fish were fairly finicky, and did not seem to interested in the worm, but we still got some amazing footage.
As a reminder we were fishing very cold winter conditions, so I am eager to see how fish react come the summer time.
This underwater camera is amazing and so versatile. I cannot wait to use it again! There is a link down below to the camera if you all wanna check it out!

This video got me wondering how the fish would react to u talking to um .. it probably be a mess to rig up a speaker just to scare off the fish but never know. "Hey little fishy got some food for ya "
this is neat. maybe have the leader line little longer away from the camera….
what type of camera did you use?
1. camera make a noisy, 2. your hook is too big, 3. you bait too big try small amount, 4. Blue gill it like red worm and waxworm or some thing is white, try one is no camera and one is with camera close together to see which is bit first, 5. if they have enough food in there it will not eat your bait, if on that place have a lot of plankton try life bait, good showed 2 T up .
What a fun video… Great shots of all those different species!
i think it s the way you been loadig that worm too – i started using live nightcrawlers again after only artificial but i was using a lot less worm than when i was a kid and hoooking the worm like a texas rig but leaving the tail end just 1 cm off the barbed hoook and personally i think it works just as good as loading half a worm on a hook.
Cool camera im it alot work
The reason why your Nightcrawler is not getting the fishes attention is because it's not moving. You have to cook it on the tail half of the body. The front half has the vital organs that would cause it to die faster if you were to hook through it.
I'm trying to learn how fish react to bait and lures so that maybe I can catch more than the very few that I catch. This is excellent information for me. Thank you so very much
Your video is the best proof anyone would need against using wadded up nightcrawlers when fishing for panfish. They couldn't get the nightcrawler into their mouth so they tried to just take a bite out of it. They never got the hook into their mouth. No wonder you didn't catch any. I would highly recommend using a red wiggler instead. Unfortunately you probably can't buy them because no one sells them. They are easy to raise, though. You can buy what are called red worms or big red worms. They are still too big, but if you break them in half they should be OK. Your bait has to be small enough for the fish to get the bait – and the hook – into it's mouth (should be obvious). Also, for panfish I would use a smaller hook (again, so the fish can easily get the bait and the hook into its mouth). Before you reject this, just once try a size 14 hook and half of a red worm or 1/3 of a big red worm. Look at how small a sunfish mouth is. Your bait should not be larger than that if you want to catch them. Bass and catfish can take larger baits into their mouths, but panfish can't. Match the bait to the fish.
should inflate night crawler
Tell us more about the camera.
Aren't you afraid of getting it snagged and losing it? It can't be cheap
Don't braid the worm on the hook. You will get more committed hits.
Hate to accidentally cast up into those transmission lines
This makes me not want to use worms even more lol never had much luck with them compared to other baits
I don’t know about regular earthworms. We didn’t use them. We used what my grandfather called green worms. We’d look for the ‘bubbles’ of dirt, after a rain, along the banks of the patomac and monocacy rivers. That’s where we’d dig to find these really skinny green colored earthworms. They were much slimier than night crawlers and they smelled strong. They were hard to string on a hook, because they were so skinny, but the fish loved them.
Very interesting, makes you think!?
Great video thanks
They can’t get hooked because the weight of the camera pushes the hook to far down to the sand, and the size of that worm is too big.

Now after many many years I see why the bluegill bite is always rapid TAP Tap TAP Tap TAP Tap TAP Tap TAP Tap!!!!!!! It’s them shaking their head furiously with part of the bait in their mouth. I had always imagined bite bite bite … and not shake shake shake. Cool!!! Thanks!!!!
very cool
Great shots Magician!
what type of camera is that?
So glad you dont shut up the whole time.
Its better to have worms in the strike zone and not the bottom if its suspended they can see it better the eyes are on top if thier head catfish and bottomfeeders are the onlything on the bottom that much
I need this camera to prove to myself whether there are actually fish in my locals or not lol
It doesn't look like they were very hungry or in a feeding mode
Why not jig the rod slightly in place to give some action to the bait?
sad carp infestation.
[thank, you for you're video and you're info]
Fish are so dumb lmao
you should use like a little less than a fourth of a nightcrawler for panfish and put a bait holder off of a barrel swivel the panfish cant resist it and they will actually get the hook set in there mouth not the worm
I might just use this camera trick, love the ingenuity
Panfish and bass will usually go for a suspended bait much more readily, especially if it's 6-12 inches off the bottom. I'm sure this would be tricky with a camera attached to your fishing line…maybe run a longer leader from the camera and put some sort of float just above the bait/hook, and give it some action every now and then.
Tilapia taste so good kept going through my head
Despite warm discharge, still probably cold making them lethargic to eat. Or maybe just a lot of util on the line to make it sus. Im surprised no whole worm hooked in the middle; probably very natural presentation.
i wonder how they would react to a minnow or a crayfish as bait.
I’d be so mad to see all these fish jsut swim right by my bait without bighting it
. Good stuff man.
I think you ring is set up good but can be improved if you add about 3-6inches more to the leader so we can see the action better. also if you return back to this sport can you use floating bait i think it might attract mor action is it off the ground.. Regardless this is great footage, thanks for sharing.
@thefishinmagician2.0 try this again next time with a drop shot set up see how the blue gills react
Cool concept. Would love to see you do this trolling or with lures.
When they are smart, they won't touch the one with the hook. Even the live ones. Did fool them with a cricket. Used to see hooked worms but not crickets
Float the worm a foot off the bottom.
Caught a state record Largemouth Bass in Oregon using Live worm
What my uncle showed me witch my real papa showed him is rip the worm in a half and feed the hook through its insides so your bait isn't being stolen they have to bite the hook then but all you new generation youngsters be afraid of a worm
Very interesting good job would enjoy watching more videos like this this
Stop wrapping the worm like that only hook the head of the worm let the rest free to move around underwater would attract more fish js
