  1. Paint doesnt matter on jig heads or spinnerbaits. Because if it mattered no one would have ever caught bass on texas rig worms and tube baits while using unpainted bullet weights.
I know guys that pour spinnerbaits built on .028 wire forms because the thinner wire produces a much more pronounced blade thump. They dont paint the heads because it is a waste of paint and time. After four or five fish the wire form is usually wrecked so they keep the skirts, blades and swivels to use on a new bait.

  2. I have a buzz bait that was a red head and white skirt and I’d attach a split-tail grub on it most of the time. I still have it after 25 years and have caught many bass on it and fortunately never broken off, however it only has a few specks of red on it at the base of the head and I still throw it and catch bass! The lead has turned a darker shade now and I always thought it was perhaps the red was the hot-spot but it seems like the action on top the water and the white skirt and grub are what really makes the difference, so not so sure the head color makes a big difference, except perhaps for a buzz bait or spinner bait.

  3. I usually touch mine up with blood colored fingernail polish, crimson or scarlet. Fish like blood color. "Though your sins be as scarlet they will be white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."- Isaiah 1:18 Trust Jesus as Lord and Savior; He died for you and rose again.

  4. Gosh…..this is one heck of some fine subject to touch on. Seriously. Ive often wondered to myself if it was detrimental to fish the chipped jig head. More often than not I'd touch em up if I had the opportunity. Ya know, just to be safe coz I really didn't know. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I admit that I'd kinda stress on it to the point that I'd tie on a new(er) jig . A pain in the ass. Time waster. You name it. Thank you very much,Randy.
    Take care and gawd bless

  5. I pour my own heads, if the heads are chipping they aren't curing the powder paint. Basically they are powder coating then and then gluing the eyes and weed guard in to save time and effort.

  6. You had me scared for a moment Randy… I've built my own live rubber jigs since 1980. I built a ton of them for Gete's lure company. And since the very early nineties I've never put a spot of paint on my own jigs and caught thousands of bass and won thousands of dollars on them. They work fine, ESPECIALLY after they're bruised up. Anal retentive perfectionist fishermen hate to be around me.

  7. Why not when you fish a spinnerbait you rely on the flash from the blades along with vibration .I believe at times it can help and at times it can be obtrusive .The only way to know is to experiment and let the fish make the final decision.Just like with pork rind or plastic trailers I tie identical jigs on 1 has a pork trailer and 1 has a plastic trailer .The fish know what they want and make the final decision for me 😉

  8. I love Fall here in Canada, it’s the time of year that I get to launch my Kayak in our local river, I take a rake with me and rake up thousands of dollars worth of lures that people have lost all summer.😂
