Hiking in the Snow | Winter River Fishing

Welcome to At Water Level — long-form river fishing in Ohio and beyond.

Kayaking wasn’t an option, so I had to hike in and find some open water.
Day one was mostly iced over. Day two started melting fast. Total contrast in just 24 hours.
I went in looking for smallmouth, but had to adapt and lean into the carp sitting in that warmer overflow. Sometimes that’s just how winter river fishing in Ohio goes — you show up with one plan and the river gives you another.
