Heavy Rain and Hefty HOOKSETS: Clarks Hill Bass Fishing

Jimmy and I took on a day of fishing before the tropical storm set in on the southeast. It was plenty hot and steamy already, but a fast moving storm front came in and forced us off the water early.

We decided to head to a part of the lake we hadn’t been to in a while. We caught some fish and missed a few too. Didn’t see anything special that made us want to head back to that area for upcoming tournaments, but sometimes you gotta try stuff to rule it out.

We caught the majority of our fish on finesse techniques. Shakeyhead, finesse jig, and a drop shot were the key players. These Clarks Hill bass are getting more and more finicky with the heat. It’s definitely possible to get a reaction strike, but the finesse and slow moving baits have been the ticket for us lately. We jumped around between shallow cover and offshore rock. We couldn’t find much size, but that not unusual for a hot August day on Clarks Hill. The better fishing is at night this time of year for sure.

Hope y’all enjoyed this video! Let me know what sorts of things y’all would like to see more of in the comments! Lot’s more footage on the way! Sorry I’ve gotten a little behind on videos. Life has been crazy lately, but a lot of exciting things are happening, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with y’all!

  1. Is the water real muddy where u went? I was up in Germany creek this weekend and it's muddy and I couldn't find any…only caught two after 2 days of fishing around that area

  2. Good video. Well I'm back from Virginia and myself and Hank (BassGeek on youtube) a long time friend….had a blast. He really wanted me to see how they catch those bass in 70ft of water on Front Facing Sonar (FFS). I'll say I'm a believer. But just because you see them (live) dose not mean they will eat. And those highland reservoir lakes are sure different. Crystal clear water… We fished 2 lakes and even had a black bear come swim by and I got some pics. Pretty cool. Not sure if he is going to put out a video of us. Maybe… It's his turn next to came hear and us fish a few lakes here. Really enjoyed your video.
