Growing Big Bass in a Fertile Pond Farm – A Simplified Pond Food Chain

Growing big bass requires a healthy bluegill population. A healthy bluegill population requires a healthy phytoplankton population.

These photosynthetic micro-organisms form the base of the pond food chain and are essential for a healthy pond. This is why pond water fertility is so important!

Agricultural ponds usually receive abundant nutrients from runoff, but other ponds may need supplement fertilization to boost plankton populations. Join us as we discuss the importance of pond fertility and perform an electrofishing survey on a very fertile pond.

  1. Weird.. if you did that in my 5 acre pond.. you would be pulling out 10 bluegill or bass out at a time. Blue gill are bigger than those, but bass are way smaller.
