I use Horny toads and Ribbets . Double hook one piece frog fishing on the upper Mississippi river is very expensive because we have so many toothy critters ! Even a 3 pounder pike will cost you 8 bucks !
there's those who argue that a hollow body frog isn't imitating a frog at all , ask Gregg Hackney and Todd Castleman who developed the popping perch , some say the hollow belly frog imitates bream or shad , i think it's just a meal on top of the water is all they're seeing hearing or feeling , but i don't believe they think it's a frog either with all the frog fish i've caught in the middle of wide open water nothing around or a spawning flat or big shallow in summer

Great video Steve. I honestly think I'm the worst frog angler on the planet lol. I give it all I got and strike out more then hit the ball lol. But each year I keep trying and trying to up my game on it. It is an adrenalin rush for sure when they knock the crap out of a frog,
Sigh,I have bad problems with softbody frogs sinking,is why I don't use frogs more,but now I'm going to bring a some softbody frogs on my next trip.Thanks for the tips Steve👍🏻

First I want to say I love your sunglasses!👏 Great info. I was just thinking about doing a video on frogging. The only 2 things I would added are a stiff rod and braided line. I personally dont have rig specific rod combos. But for frog fishing I have learnt over the years how to get a better hookset. On most topwater baits/lures I use mono. But in a frog situation the stretch of the mono can hinder setting the hook deep enough. I dont suggest Floro because it sinks. However the combination of nonstretching braid and the stiffer rod helps penetrate the fishes mouth for a better hookset. Keep up the great job my friend. Btw you missed some nice blowups behind you while recording😁 keep the lines wet and tight stay safe🍻👊🏻👍🎣

Great video ! It’s tough to beat the fun and excitement of fishing frogs ! Last year the frog bite was terrible, this year is off to a good start . I really like a popping frog for most applications. I can walk it or pop it depending on what the bass want . Great tips and tricks as always !
