FLY vs LURE for BASS 🎣 Which method actually catches more fish?

We put fly fishing head-to-head with lure fishing in an epic UK bass fishing session — swapping methods throughout the day to keep the test as fair as possible. 60 bass, a couple of surprise mackerel… and a result neither of us expected.

On paper, lure fishing should have had the advantage. It’s fast, efficient and covers huge amounts of water. Fly fishing takes more technique, more effort and looks like the harder way to catch bass.

But would it actually catch fewer fish?

Will and I swapped between fly and lure throughout the session, fishing the same water and the same conditions. As the bass kept coming, the competition became far closer — and far more surprising — than we expected.

By the end of the session we’d caught 54 bass, plus a couple of mackerel, and one method had beaten the other by a remarkable margin.
