Fly Rod: 9′ Hobbs Creek
Line Weight: #8
Leader: 6 lb mono, 8 ft. leader
Lure: Various Popping Flies
Liz and I break out the fly rod and head out to the pond to catch some bluegills. Fly fishing is a great way to get kids involved in fishing. It is an easy technique to learn and exciting to watch as the bream come up to the surface to eat the flies. Also, Liz catches a nice bass on her new favorite topwater bait, the Whopper Plopper.

Why are u putting BlueGill on the reel
An8 wt is for big bass ,a 5 or 6wt would be better for general use.
dont use the rod to pop the popper thats how you break it in a quick second.
someone's got to show them how to cast a fly rod. please!!
Liz definitely has the right vibe for fishing. ๐๐๐ป
Awesome video, But I know everyone has already said it but using something no bigger than a 4 or 5 wt around Alabama is awesome fun unless you're stripe fishing then take out the 8
I don't know how anyone can dislike any of your videos. All your videos are awesome. You guys are really good fisherman and one day I would like to have the opportunity to fish along side you guys. I'm from buffalo ny and our bass fishing is incredible but not quite the size you and especially Liz always seen to catch lol
I would overline that fly rod, i.e. use a 9wt line, since you're not casting over 20ft and the rod isn't going to load right with an 8wt at that distance.
dont let the line go mid cast
This is like a spinning rod, actually fly fishing takes a lot of practice.
This video really triggers fly fishermen
if you keep the rod tip down and make the fly pop by stripping the line instead of twitching the tip there will be less slack in the line and you will get better hookups. You can also use Enrico Puglisi micro minnow flies. They work on bass, bream, cichlids, snook, jacks, and pretty much any other fish that swims. Bass pro sell them online as do most online fly shops.
So when can I visit and try to pull in 1 of those 16 oz bream. I'd love to put a lb bluegill on the wall.
I realized you barely have any Slag, so you can just reel it in. genius. where I'm at I have to get some distance so I pull 3 ft or so of slag, I'm going to try it your way
An 8 weight rod for Bluegill and putting them on the reel, Really??
@MattC0621 your right he needs a like a 2 or 3 weight and it will feel like a whale
You guys are awesome!
I keep my leader at 3 ft.
I like the Chest Cam;what kind I would like to get one?
Get a lighter weight rod; a 2 or 3 weight and those panfish will feel like tarpon. great fun.
Thanks for not showing us the big bass OR the lure she caught it on! Kind of a disappointment eh?
Flair catches small fish, Liz catches the big ones!
Just strip the fish in instead of reeling it in.
no wrist in fly casting
Anytime you put "liz catches a big bass" in the title…I'm no longer impressed. That's ALL she catches. Lol. Liz is a badass.
Props for always posting a variety in content. You talked about equipment, rod, reel, line, and tackle. And showed fish to prove the combination works! Best fishing channel on youtube. No drama. Lol!
can u do a ho to tie a chatterbait cause I don't know how and i want to learn how to tie a chatterbait on
do you have any discount codes for bamafrogs on orders over 100$???
good video man what reel is liz using on her baitcaster
Hey my name is Tanner I'm turning 13 on July 12 and I will be in Alabama I was wondering if I could pay for a guided trip
Thx for the fly fishing episode. The 8 weight line is a little on the heavy side for panfish, but makes a good compromise outfit for a bass/panfish combo. You might try a Bully's Bluegill Spider in black for some great subsurface action. You guys do an awesome job, I really enjoy your videos and it's always a treat when I find a new one by ya'll. Looks like Liz is a great all around angler! RTR!
Tips to anyone interested in fly fishing. There's no such thing as a "proper way" to fish but to learn how to cast "proper" watch instructional videos from Orvis. You'll become addicted
I should break out the fly rods again. I can fish AND keep people at bay. Get back! "WHIP!"
I love Bluegillin' with a 5 wt Fly Rod and Poppers! I used to go to this special little pond loaded with bruisers. Some of my fondest fishing memories happened at this hidden pond in the 80's. Your videos can take me back to those good ol' days……..Before they paved paradise and put up a parking lot. ; (
Bamabass do you have a PO box, if not get one!!! You're the best
My wife is just starting to love fishing. I hope someday we can be like you two. She frog fished for her first time a couple days ago and we lost an 8 or 9lber at the boat and she is hooked and can't wait to do it again, Keep up what you two are doing,
Great Video
Love the videos! Liz needs a channel also
