50/50 is best way & it keeps the trust
My old partner was the kicker, dude expected me to pick him up at his house and drop him back off, and he wouldn’t cover any of the gas or gear and if he miraculously had half of the entry fee for a tournament he still expected half of the winnings. And all this is even if he didn’t back out 15 minutes before the trip.
The only thing that I would add is I know from experience that whoever the incentive check is issued to will receive a W2 at the end of the year so I feel like that tax money should be held out to the check holder and the rest split 50/50.
One thing I have always insisted as a non boater with my boater team partners is if they catch big bass they keep all of the money but if I catch big bass I always split it 50/50 with my team partner.
Well done. I agree that you need to figure it out before you team up
I agree Todd. You need to work this stuff out before you ever start being a team. Both sides have to agree on the terms of being a partner, it is what a partnership is. If I don't have a boat, I need to split operating expenses with the boat owner, all of it. If I can't get out on the fish because I don't have a boat, but my partner and I are compatible in tournament fishing, there needs to be a split, but maybe it's a percentage of the winnings/incentives whatever the case may be. Maybe 80%-20% owner/partner, maybe 70%-30%, or even 60%40%. This all needs to be worked out before hand. Good partners will have this worked out. If not, animosity will creep in and the partnership will not last.
Granted, my fishing partner is my dad so we tend to treat each other very fairly when it comes to tourney money, but step one when it comes to who gets what is always making sure each persons expenses for the tournament are covered, then we look at dividing profits. I’ve been listening as I work so you may have covered this but it’s the only thing I didn’t hear mentioned that came to my mind. I’ve seen guys get mad after winning 4-500 but the expenses their partner had ate up all their winnings, but dude still felt like he was owed 250 bucks😂
I agree if you don't have the boat you don't get the bonus. but if you win the winnings besides the bonus you for sure split. We go 50/50 I help with gas and launch fee and usually bring lunch. Also since I cant fish as much but I'm networking and doing my research to help us on game day. My boater he works a ton and try's to practice but cant all the time that's why I network and help send him to areas to check and find our nugget or we run history.
My team partner and myself put in the work equally and split the money equally. If I can get a day off to practice, we're good, if I can't; we're still good because he's got us covered. If we're both on the water covering the water, we're even better. There is nothing better then when we text each other "we're good"
50/50 is the best way to split it.
Great video. Great honest info.
I split everything 50-50 with my partner, but I’m not trying to make a live as a fisherman either. I’m enjoying the video game live scope fishing and just slaying. I’m just like the pros I don’t understand why people pay pros to do it. It’s a pretty good gig, keep riding it as long as it lasts.
60 days is nothing it’s all frame of reference I guess from 23 years in the military I find that kind of funny but I still enjoy your podcast
Don’t forget you gotta split it with your wife too 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude… Can we ban tournaments in February? We can't get a break on weather! I'd rather fish in 100deg in July!
I have the best tournament partner. I spend 97% of the money and do about 95% of the work, but I wouldn't want to fish with anyone but my Dad.
👍👍👍
Easier to find a wife or a great team partner?
Do you get a 1099? If so, how do you work the tax responsibility out?
Best feeling was winning a boat and splitting the check with my team partner after we sold it
It’s really simple- don’t fish with a butthole. I have always split it 50/50, it’s the only way it should be.
Depends on your relationship with your buddy. Long time friends are way easier then a dude you've known for a few years
Great video.
Been there done that. It's a tough deal that needs to be discussed before you ever agree to fish a tour together. I've fished team tours alone to avoid the money drama part of it.
I have 2 partners. Who? Myself and I. They fish with Me! I fish alone and have never done better ever since I grew a pair and made the challenge. I've won 7 TN river events solo, in a 7 year period. Nothing in ' 23 tho. I might use a partner on occasion for like a benefit tournament but, I've never been happier fishing alone!
I know what you talking about I got the same shit just because I got money
I do 50/50 if we win and pay same amount on entry and gas. I ve always wondered about winning big bass of the tournament. Should that be split? Or should the person who caught it keep the money
When fishing with a non boat partner. How do you think it should go down if it was a 50/50 split but your trolling motor was broke while the non boater was using the trolling motor. If you cashed by some chance should the boater get all the winnings? 🤔
Great video. Finding a fishing partner takes a lot especially when on a tournament day your with them 10-12 hours a day.
Would like to see you discuss how you and your partner share a boat. Such as who drives or runs trolling motor when in the other boat.
Great information
Another thing, I know they can’t be used in BASS and MLF, but in most tournaments somebody had to net the good fish. I’ve always split the money no matter what, even in tournaments where I caught all 5 fish
