Fishing NEW Water After a Cold Front | Deer Lake, WA Bass Fishing
Fishing new water is one of the best ways to become a better angler — and Deer Lake in Washington gave me plenty of opportunities to learn.
After a cold front moved through, I headed out to explore unfamiliar water and see if I could put together a pattern. The day started off slow, and I had to spend some time figuring out what the bass were doing and where they were positioned.
Eventually, I was able to put the pieces together and finish the day with 2 smallmouth bass and 2 largemouth bass.
But I had another goal in mind.
I’m currently fishing an online season-long tournament, and I’m looking for a 16″+ smallmouth that I can use to cull one of my smaller fish. So while catching four bass made for a successful day, I was still hunting for that kicker smallmouth that could make a difference in the standings.
This trip was another reminder that fishing unfamiliar water is all about adapting, learning, and being willing to change things when the initial plan isn’t working.
New water. Tough conditions. A slow start. Eventually finding a pattern.
And honestly… any day on the water is a great day. 🎣
