Fishing a Kayak Bass Tournament in Downtown Boston!

For this Massachusetts B.A.S.S. Nation Kayak Series tournament on the Charles River, we had two launches to choose from: Waltham and Boston. I figured most of the field would head to Waltham—and I was right—so I decided to gamble and launch in downtown Boston instead. And it was a gamble, because that’s the section of the Charles I have the least experience fishing.

Fishing in the heart of Boston is a completely different adventure from anywhere else on the Charles. It’s tidal, the water is much deeper, the boat traffic can be insane, and you’ve got trains, sirens, endless parades of people, and nonstop noise all around you (subtitles added because of this). It’s chaotic, loud, annoying, but pretty damn cool as well.

The fishing, however, is usually a grind from start to finish, and this day was no exception. But with just THREE MINUTES left in the tournament, one last fish completely changed my day!
