FINESSE TOPWATER and BFS! ( This Topwater Hack Is The Real Deal )

Ready to take your topwater fishing to the next level? This is the way! Whether you’re ready to jump on the BFS band wagon or not, learning to adapt smaller topwater baits into your arsenal will elevate your game. In recent years we’ve seen micro jigs, micro cranks, now we’re realizing the benefits of micro topwater.

It’s amazing how bass fishing trends come and go. For a long time it was bigger and bigger baits, and while swimbaits will forever have a place in the arsenal, the pendulum is swinging toward smaller profiles for most applications. Due partially to the success of bait finesse in the US market, companies are beginning to bring more smaller topwater profiles to market. As anglers, we’re reaping the rewards of this trend and you can too!

Below you’ll find links to all the baits Tim discussed in the video, as well as a few others that have really done well for us this year. We’ve also included some of Tim’s favorite BFS combos. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

  1. I understand the reason for BFS
But I believe Randy Blaukat (the intuitive and bass pro legend) along with myself have been throwing finesse lures on spin cast my whole life
Rapala 5 deep runner for instance is how old and has remained a go to in ruff times getting a limit
Spin cast will have you getting up to 10 more yards on a cast or more

  2. I’ve got a couple of those Damiki Umpa 40’s on back order with TW. Can’t wait to get my hands on them and try them out. The date keeps getting pushed back so I’m not sure when I’ll get them.

  3. Caught a 5.9 lb bass on a Popx on a Catskills NY pond. Killer lure. But I threw it on a spinner, very tempted to jump on the bfs bandwagon cause I am much more accurate with a baitcaster.

  4. I bought my first BFS rod/reel about 3-4 weeks ago. Tested in local pond at sunrise. Caught a chunky bass after only a few casts with a baby lipless and could "send it" (as Tim/Matt say) a crazy distance. Since then it's been 105F min daily. Zero rain. Zero clouds. Insane UV. N. Texas area. Can't wait for 95F. Will feel like AC compared to the bs right now.

  5. Use like to see a true comparison with casting distances from spinning reels to BFS set ups. With everything being identical. Same lures, line, rod blanks. See what actually casts further?

  6. What are the benefits of throwing these finesse baits on a BFS bait cast equipment? I’m able to fish finesse baits on spinning equipment, no problem. In fact I see no reason for bait cast equipment in Bass fishing, period. I figure if salt water guys catch 100 lb Tarpon on spinning equipment with 4000 size reel, no problem, why is a baitcaster needed for a 10-15 lb Bass? Maybe a video about all the benefits of bait caster equipment.

  7. Sorry but the megabass pop-x ain’t a bfs lure, It’s just the smaller pop-max. The megabass “baby pop-x” is the true bfs lure. They just launched the whole bfs line up last weekend so now you can get a X-80 jr BFS, X-70 BFS, Baby PopX BFS, Dog-X jr Co-Ayu BFS, Griffon SRX BFS and Griffon MRX BFS. So all the bfs guys should be excited!! I just started throwing smaller lures and it’s so much fun!! Excellent video Tim!👍🏻🤙🏻

  8. Maybe in the next couple years I might give it a try.
I love throwing glides and swimbaits and pitching/flipping is my favorite and how I catch the majority of my fish. Besides I have a few rods picked out I have to buy before I can start looking at anything else.
    It’s a sickness for sure. 😩

  9. Gone full circle. I started out Trout fishing then creek smallmouth fishing all with ultra light spinning gear. Now it seems with all the BFS that it is going right back to where I started.

  10. More BFS videos! Can't wait for you guys to review all the new products coming out for BFS. Megabass, Strike king, Z-Man to name a few. You guys should check out the new Phenix BFS classic rod. I think you'll really like it. 👍🏼

  11. I lucked into a school of wipers that had pushed a ball of shad into a small creek arm. I spent 6 hours catching them on a whopper plopped 65. That bait got retired after that, but it was awesome.

  12. Megabass has now released the baby pop X BFS. It is smaller than the Baby pop X very finesse. I fish a heavily pressured spot and they have been chewing the pop X BFS. They also have a new dog x jr BFS the I have had similar results with

  13. I throw it on a 6'10" med zodias or Expride. I've landed a ton of fish in my local lakes on the 77.7 since last year spring.Even the dog-x jr is cool with great action. They're not bfs just finesse.

  14. Yall keep giving up my niche styles, i wouldve appreciated it ten years ago but damn, add a paywall or somethin lol. Youre killin me smalls.
Other than that another solid video with information i can confirm as effective. Kudos fellas

  15. Was really hoping Shimano would bring over the SLX BFS this year, I like my Zephyr but I much prefer my curado BFS. Glad to see you’re still talking about that Dobyns 700, I caught a 20lb carp on it not too long ago that i snagged by accident. That was an adventure 😂
