We’re on a new lake and it’s a good thing he saw the birds! We’re deep in the South with an evening to burn so we’re fishing a new lake. It’s covered in lily pads with tons of cover along the shorelines. Everything about this lake says “fish shallow cover” but when Matt saw birds diving, the light tackle came out and he got bit on the first cast!
If you’d told Matt ahead of time that he’d be throwing light spinning tackle in open water on a lake like this, he would have thought you were crazy! This is why it’s so important to keep an open mind when you approach a new lake. Pay attention to what the fish are saying and keep an eye on your environment for any clues. This evening, the birds were working bait and Matt was sure the fish wouldn’t be far behind.

Love the xzone swammer on an owner flashy swimmer. Awesome combo. I use a lot of xzone stuff, great line up.
Those birds looked like they were eating insects or bugs , they do that a lot on my home lake.
The 6’10” ML Cashion iCon paired with Daiwa Tatula SV TW70 is prob the casting setup version of that Expride spinning reel. I’ve thrown really light lures as well as heavier baits. It instantly became my EDC combo. 🙌

crazy yesterday i was watching yalls older videos of fishing new lakes, and today post a new one!
Its insane what you mean about how crazy the bite is but they wont eat anything else… the ponds over here in northern illinois right now literally the fish hardly will eat anything besides a mepps inline spinner, its been the weirdest pattern for the last month or so, even if we've had very warm weather lately, the chatterbait hasnt even been working, just wild to me but you'll pull them out of the water cast after cast with the mepps

I fish a 125+ acre grass lake thats crazy. Its about 65% grass and pads and about 50% under 4’ deep. There are days you cant find a buck bass in the pads or grass but throw out in the middle of the lake on nothing and you’ll catch.
Those X-Zone Swammers are dynamite! I really like the Perch and Bluegill colors for my neck of the woods. They make great spinnerbait trailers, in addition to everything else they do well.
