Everyone struggled. Offshore bite + punching mats saved my Bassmaster event.

The Bassmaster Kayak Series stop in Kissimmee was one of the toughest events I’ve fished.
Out of 242 anglers, I finished 21st — a Top 10% finish — by committing to TWO completely different patterns.
Three of my key kicker fish came offshore. But the pattern that actually completed my limits? Punching boat-lane mats where resident males were setting up under sun-warmed sub-mats.
Day 1:
• Flipped a Rage Craw to secure three key fish
• Added two offshore kickers, one on a chatterbait and one on a lipless crankbait
Day 2:
• Started offshore with one decent fish
• Couldn’t upgrade
• Finished my limit punching a Berkley Creature Hawg with a 1 oz weight
Then I ran back offshore looking for one more upgrade that never materialized.
This tournament was about adjustments, commitment, and knowing when to switch gears — offshore structure vs shallow mat punching.
