In Episode 2, I compare the wacky rig and swim bait while fishing at the Libertyville Old School Forest Preserve. In Episode 1, I tried the wacky rig for the first time and caught my first bass using a green pumpkin-colored bait in murky water with sunny intervals. However, in Episode 2, with cloudy skies, gusts of cold wind, and clearer water, the swim bait with a silver pattern proved more effective.
I used two techniques in the cold, sluggish early spring conditions: pop and pause and drag. These slow methods worked well for coaxing bites in pre-spawn waters.
What you’ll learn in this video:
– Why the swim bait outperformed the wacky rig in clearer water with cold winds
– Tips for fishing early spring cold water, including pop and pause and drag techniques
– How to target sluggish, pre-spawn bass effectively
