Early Fall Bass Fishing Buyer's Guide

Swimbaits, jerkbaits, dropshot worms, and so many other awesome products have come to market since ICAST. It looks like this Fall is going to be a lot of fun! Today Matt is showing us a few of the new lures that stand out to him, along with a few items that he’s been testing for a while. You know Matt is a tackle junkie so come along and see what he’s found.

Every year ICAST (Bass fishing’s biggest trade show) brings the promise of fun new gear to check out in the Fall. This year Tim did a review of some of his favorites and now its Matt’s turn. The delays are over, products are beginning to hit store shelves, and its time for the fun to begin. We all love showing bass something new, we just want to know that we we aren’t wasting valuable time and money on a dud.

Some of today’s products are brand new to market and are simply a first look, others we’ve been using for as much as a year and are just now circling back to confirm our stamp of approval. Below is a breakdown of the gear in the video in order of appearance.

  1. I'm just starting to try to get into bass fishing more now that I have a boat. I live in southern Illinois and the weather is starting to change and be in the upper 70s to mid 80s during the day and mid to high 50s during the night and early morning. So far I've found that I like using a swim jig and soft plastic worms. I've tried crank baits before but don't ever really seem to have any luck with them. I'm also trying to build up my bait choices for the different lakes that I go to

  2. Hey Matt I have a question about jigs ,I know ya covered it many times but I feel that jigs aren't covered from the bank perspective. I bank fish at lake cachuma when I get a chance .thanks Justin

  3. I know it started as a clear water technique, but has anybody ever thrown a spybait in stained, tannic water or inshore?
    Any luck with it?

Never thrown one and interested to try.

Definitely gonna check out the green pumpkin blue pearl red yellow june bug black white peanut butter jelly smoked shad watermelon ghost bubblegum rainbow sparkle (aka Bluegill) though!

  4. I want to fish everyday.. I hope one day I'll be able to do something like that. All around the country.. thanks for helping us fishing guy's and girls.. one day I get to meet yall .. .. good stuff..

  5. Hey guys fan of your channel, I'm an amputee angler in Colorado, I'd definitely love to see you guys tear it up in some of the ponds and lakes, the bass here are way over fished because we have more streams. It would be amazing to come out here and do a fall bass challenge either from bank or boat in fall! Plus I'd love to tag along, get some pointers, as I'm not new but new to fishing without my master angler father who did all my rigs for me as a kid, so I'm relearning this! I'm an extremely big bank fisherman, and as an Amputee I'm walking 20 thousand steps some days covering the banks, bass are tough here, I'd love to join ya if you ever want to come try the mile high state bass challenge!!

  6. I have fished as a kid but I'm just getting into the tactical approaches to fishing years later. Your channel is amazing with all the information and instructional videos you do. I have learned a ton of stuff from your videos. Look forward to seeing more videos in the future. I looking at the past videos from tactical bassin also. Thanks for what you guys do
