  1. Because I lost so many rigs to snags, I switched to dropshot. Here are my tips for saving time and money:

    Either

Use a lighter line to the weight so you don’t lose the whole rig when the weight snags between rocks. Have a supply of weights with line already tied on.

    Or

Use a lightly crimped split shot so it slides off when snagged.

  2. Nathan, I'm glad you did one on drop shot fishing. I have a couple tips to add. I have been fishing almost exclusively the drop shot this year at one lake and here is my take. I like a bigger hook, a 1/0. I still like the hook exposed, even in grass. The greater hookup ratio is worth picking grass off of your hook and, a lot of times when you rip the hook out of the grass, that's when they hammer it. As for the weight, I am learning quickly that distance is no trade off when fishing the drop shot. A 1/8 ounce weight in my 3-6' lake is all I need even on a windy day. The 3/16 ounce falls too fast and gets hung up a lot more due to the extra weight. I have to yank it out of the grass and, like you said, that's not natural. Stick with the 1/8 ounce in shallower water! I however don't believe you always want the bait on the bottom. This technique is to catch suspended bass and, although when it gets tough you do want the bait on the bottom, if the fish are aggressive there's no use keeping it on the bottom. I'll use a Ned or shaky head for that! Good stuff!

  3. The other day I was fishing conditions similar to what you were under when you made this video. I switched from my regular 8lb fluorocarbon DS setup and used a 10lb copolymer with a larger hook. The biggest change was using a tear drop lead weight while fishing scattered rocky points and had a really good sensitivity of what I was dragging my bait through. I almost always fish exclusively with cylinder weights but they get hung up on the rocky lake beds; usually better for grassy situations.

  4. Fishing 6 pound line and getting more bites , it’s because the bait looks and acts more natural, not because it’s less visible to the fish
