Drop shotting has evolved into not just and open water deep presentation but now guys are starting to learn that you can fish it around cover and get the same results. In this video I talk about little steps you can change to your drop shot rig to help you land those giants in this hard to reach places. I talk about what reel, rod, and baits and then show you some fish catches that might help you put more big ones in the boat.

Back in the 90's we used to "yankee rig" on toledo. Basically you just tie your hook above your carolina rig weight. It was in a Bassmaster magazine way back when.
My favorite way to fish a drop shot. Shallow and around cover. Works GREAT!
How about drop shotting in water with less than a foot of visibility? Is that a no-no or does it matter?
Thanks for the video and, thanks for the tip about skin hooking the bait on the flat side. What you said made a lot of sense!
As many bass as I’ve caught on a dropshot, I’ve never caught one over 3#. What do I need to change? Frustrating
Snapped off two last time out….lol….on 10lb line … Playing with drop shot myself… sometimes I get excited about the bite and have a tendency to set to hard….lol…got to learn to lean into them…..Good video Todd
Todd, gotta disagree. My experience is the palomar knot has a tendency to slip and get in the gap of the eye and breaks. The snell knot with 7 wraps turns up and never slips. Try it, you will never use the palomar for drop shotting again.
Todd,
Great informative video. Just a couple of quick question. Do you use the 4 inch Dreamshot or the 5 inch. The reason I ask is would you use the same hook on both or a larger size on the larger bait. Thanks
All the time you talked about knots you could of tied 3 of them lol
You guys have to try Bambuie Bear Heavy cover grass shots. Best tungsten drop shop weight to through cover by far.
Todd didn't u pick tkio I'm spilling it wrong but u did pick him best win this year I think
How much weight were you using; 3/8, 1/2?
Just yesterday I figured out that I need to fish a heavy drop shot rig because the fish I’m trying to get to are in 8-10 feet of water in weeds and a current that changes strength and direction every couple of minutes; is YouTube reading my mind?
Great drop shot tips Todd! Now I have another use for my medium bait casters .
I can't seem to get any bait to be horizontal in the water. The weight if the bait always pulls the hook down and are vertical. Do I need to have floating baits?
How do you feel about Palomar for floro??
Great video I like the no BS approach.
Great video but I'd like to see how you tie it up for a baitcaster and spinning reel.
I'm a big fan of the Owner Cover shot for T-rigged applications. Best hook I've ever used on a drop shot.
I used to throw a drop shot 20 years ago when I was a teenager on baitcasters but do you really think in east Texas it’s better than say a t rig or even a shaky head? Im like you but I hate a spinning reel. I’ll eventually embrace it but not anytime soon.
you aint gonna catch me using no damn fairy wand….It's a sad day when T Castledine uses a pixie stick. Nah Im just kidding, this is a great vid, and a lil dif take on a traditional dropshot vid. I really enjoy these vids, and I never understood the people who just will not use a spinning rod or finesse technique. You gotta use what the fish want and if that means super finesse, that's what it is. keep these vids coming Todd……good stuff!!!
must be the assclown from fork stalking your videos and disliking all of them!!! LMAO
Great video as usual answered some questions I had, but now I'm waiting to see if aaron approves!!
Finally, a drop shot video!!! After watching video of me setting the hook with a drop shot I have been trying to reel in and smaller hook sets. Kept breaking the line and I think it’s because smaller line and too much force in hook sets.
Ohhh…the Knot savior!!!
Thank you for saving us from another “this is the knot to use” video in conjunction with a technique.
I have 4 I have learned and like to use. The rest of my brain space is occupied by a never ending honey-do list, my favorite beers, bourbons, fishing spots, and at my age remembering peoples names!!!
The first one and last one 🤦♂️
