You’re out bass fishing. You spray yourself with bug spray. The scent is left on your body that may spread to your bait. Can the bass smell it? Will they still eat the bait or will it deter the bite? Here’s my results and experiment.

I think the belief is that the bug spray degrades the tensile strength of the fishing line over time, not necessarily that fish won't bite the lure.
WD40 makes for a good attractant. I am not sure about all species, but for most fish it does work.
