Jig fishing for bass and fishing texas rigs for bass are some of the most popular ways of catching bass.
It has always been known that jigs seem to catch quality bass but recently I have heard, from a PRO, that plastics get those exact same bites…plus they get more bites in general. So I am gonna try and test this!
In this video I fish both a texas rig craw and a jig back and forth and figure out which ones gets bigger bites.
I plan to do this a lot more in the future and keep a running tally.

BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.
I disregarded jigs my whole life then one day last month i decided to give them a real try… wel i caught a 5 that day and since have caught all my biggest bass on the jig… i think its safe to say they catch bigger bass for whatever reason
I would argue that THE CRAW WON! It's catch speed is nearly twice that of the jig, and the size/weight differences were marginal.
I"m not sure if it won. To be fair you have to look at the variance of your dataset. Variance analysis tells us if the data are significantly different.
Great video with good content. Teaching moment
Cool. Was the a private managed pond? You catch per hour is crazy.
I've always found that you tend to get more bites on soft plastics but you tend to get better bites on jigs… that said a small fish will hit a jig as well under the right circumstances.
There was lotta effort involved in this video thank you I like the way you did the comparison chart
Yes. Do challenges more often please.
What kind of jig is that
I never used a jig much because I never caught any on it (probably because I wasn't using it) so I decided to use a jig a lot the last couple years and I have caught my PB with a jig so now I have always have a jig on and I throw it constantly, not only have I caught my PB but I have caught more bass over 5lbs in one year than ever in my life! I love jigs!
I feel like the plastic won. half as much time between bites, and only a slightly lower weight of fish.
Tyler, i have 2 questions. Why do you and other pro's engage and disengage the thumbar on your reel often when catching a big fish? Secondly, can you fish a jig in grassy ponds from the bank? Awesome channel!
Definitely liked this kind of video from you. Thanks
MORE Please
New to fishing…what does "easy to break that fish" mean? 7:09 Pull too hard you pull the hook out?
What an awesome video. I'm really trying to learn how to fish a jig and a craw Texas rig. I can't wait to try both ways. thanks for the video.
Can I use craw baits for places with no crawfish
lol…." its a giant…over 4 lbs" lol you need to come to cali and get on the delta pal
That was certainly interesting. Thanks for the video.
Delightful video, but do this same comparison in cold water conditions and the jig outperforms by a much bigger margin. Just my thoughts as I love both set ups equally but I have very specific criteria/conditions that dictate which one I will be using.
it's hard trying to compare baits or test if one gets more bites because you might fish in a heavier populated area with one bait and not even find any fish with the other bait
This was a great test . Keep-um coming. As jig guy I would have predicted the out come. Maybe next would be a swimjig vis a Spinnerbait. Great fun.
Thank you for doing this right. Someone else I won't name didn't take the time keeping variables as similar as possible
Great video. I loved the comparison between the jig and Texas Rig.
Twice the time to catch the jig fish…
I love a good ole jig bite..
I always prefer to fish a jig over the t-rig.
That last small 1 the 0.99 I'd throw back. Too small
Where's the update video?
What does a jig bite feel like do they nibble on it or do they take one big bite I never fished a jig before
I add a jig skirt to my texas rig
Man great comparison! I’ve always wondered if the jig truly works better.
Do you use any noise makers in your baits. If so can you do a video on this?
Awesome video it’s way cool
How many feet of clarity?
Cool video both work good in spring I see but it's hard for me to leave senko in spring or yr round I get a lot of fish on them.
You needed to time how long it took to catch a fish on each one. The craw might catch more fish because it catches them faster. I find that to be true when using swim baits. The small bait catches smaller ones faster. It can be a confidence builder on those slow bite days.
This was a really cool video. Haven't watched anyone else do this type of experiment. Spinnerbait vs chatterbait? 🤔You may already have a video, but I can't find it. Good stuff man.
Awesome video man
Mayb do each one for 30 to 45 mins then change baits
Very interesting.
Good and interesting video, you should consider the mayor population of anglers, that is the bank or pond anglers that do not have a boat. Majority of youtubers focused of course into fishing with a boat but fishing lakes and ponds without a boat is a complete different challenge. Thanks Tyler.
If you threw that craw at the 4.98 bass, he would've bit it also.
There are so many variables; you can never truly evenly test the two against one another
Just stumbled across your channel. Loving the content +1 subscriber instantly. Looking forward to endless hours on your youtube channel now haha
Great video man
Where about are you located in Ohio? I'm @ Buckeye Lake Eastern Central Ohio.
I am a relative beginner. Never caught one on a jig. Sorry for the newbie question, but is that a swim jig or flipping jig? Thanks.
