Great lure. I stand by them. They’re fantastic. They straight catch fish. Weighted, weightless. Works awesome. I crushed bass on it all fall.
I slayed them with them but they do look goofy af….durability is terrible but expected from this company.
of all the gravity baits on the market, this is the one that really has my interest. great breakdown Debo!
Great review. I've purchased a few of these baits but have not used them yet. Can't wait until spring to give them a try! Thanks for sharing!
Liked it but so fragile
I wonder, if using a straight hook will help with durability
I love the Yamatanuki, caught my PB the first time i ever fished with it. A screw lock is an absolute must though, without it the plastic rips from just casting.
My stepdad swears by it lol but I still just can’t pull away from the wacky rig 😂
Bloody good show mate ! Krikee, those doodie lures look like a load of Roo droppings ! 💩 I have been threatenin' to pick up a give a Bomba a go !
Have the yamatanuki as well as the cover scat, caught a few fish on both, mostly used it for skipping docks, very interesting you are using a Dobyns 5 power for it, I live dangerously so I was throwing them on a Champion 703 and #14 sniper , I have a Champion XP 735 , may try that out with some heavier line , btw, I think the Missile Baits Bomba has a slower fall so may pick them up for skipping
Haven't used the 3.5" size yet but definitely gonna get a few packs for next year. I've used the 2.5" size and love it on a ned rig!
Really dig this review format, straight to the point, no fluff and informative, keep these coming Debo!
I think I would use it on a Dobyns 734. I think the softer action would help with the hook sets and staying connected.
I would try a durable plastic version of it certainly (missile baits perhaps). I like the gliding action. Things like the hover rig, and overall gliding presentation – something new to show the fish.
Haven't fished it, was going to get a couple packs for my younger cousins in HS who would get a kick out of fishing a "poop" bait, but didn't get out very often in 2023 due to work. Maybe give it a try next year now that the faint ice has shown up on the small ponds.
This looks like it would be a great flipping bait or jig alternative. I understand the idea of throwing it on heavy fluorocarbon but part of me wonders if going braid to leader would help with the numbness of not having lead or tungsten to transmit bottom feel.
I use a punch skirt with it sometimes and it works great
I haven't used this type of bait, but would definitely give it a shot. I find that I like trying different baits so as not to get into a rut fishing the same stuff over and over again. Cheers brother and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
I used the yamatanuki over the summer as a substitute to the cover scat. I like the action on the 3.5 compared to the 2.5. The 2.5 seems a but too small for my applications. Durability on these is poor as you mentioned. I think I prefer the cover scat over the yamatanuki. Price is better on the yamatanuki but durability is worse. I picked up some spin nuts to compare to these. Caught my PB on the cover scat so these lures do work. Great lure/category to talk about.
Hey D! Thanks for doing the review on this. I picked up 3 packs before the 2023 season and never even opened them. Your explanation and suggestions are better than any of the other videos that I have watched thus far. 6th Sense Panorama video upcoming??? As always, thank you for doing what you do for us in the "regular guy" fishing community.
They're decent. Like all Yamamoto baits, they last one fish before they're unusable.
I gotta get those screw locks same thing one fish done but it is a great bait and I’ve been using the small one on a jig works great for this cold water
Owner haymaker hook?
I use the Ryugi Pierce Weighted Screwlock Wide Gap Hook and the TC Ryugi screw lock wide gap. They work better than the owner in my opinion, and the weighted one gives it some pretty nice action and gets it down there and allows it to dance around. and I use the 4/0 .
Haven’t thrown the poop baits yet . Definitely look interesting. Hopefully Yum will come out with a more budget friendly version.
I've been interested it trying this thing out. The depps poop bait seams a little more durable but I think I'd probably pick up both to try.
I used it over the summer here in Nashville and it crushed excellent skipping bait as well
After hearing you describe mend it .. the way you said it smells made me think of liquid bandage . hook slot tore up after catching two with a 4/0 I just realized I have a ton of 45 degree hooks here up to 6/0 for the brush jig mold and screw locks
Been having great luck on the Yamatanuki, but I've really been crushing them on the Yamamoto/Daiwa Neko Macho worm rigged weightless on an ewg hook.
Debo, cool planted tank! You should do a video on it.
Haven't fished it this yr but gonna give it a try next spring.
I used it over the summer and really enjoyed it. I started with the screw lock hooks and didn't lose many. It cast a mile and accurate as well.
Love to see another voice over video. I only tried the Yama Tanuki only once, i used the Mustad Grip pin 5/0 hooks. The plastic held for 3 to 4 fish each. It is a legit Debo Dink magnet, i think I emptied the pond of all the dinks.
Alternative title yamataNUKI or yamataDOOKIE
I tried this lure thinking there's no way this thing is going to catch anything…I was wrong LOL
