I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
Have you ever fished the CA DELTA? Sometimes its muddy waters plus a lot of vegetation. I assume its similar to Florida.
Same suggestions?
Thank for the insight! Were I live is in a confluence of two streams! One side is muddy all the time other side is crystal clear. Big fish all species except white perch! Usually varies in temperatures too! Shade is real important! Finesse tube is key! Or a hand tied hellgrmite on a fly rod!
A video about how to deal with lots of floating grass or weeds might help a lot of us. I'm curious how you fish with a lot of floating or drifting stuff that gets on your line.
Hey Matt I know this has nothing to do with the video, but Matt I finally got a chance to use your hover rig . I fish at this fishing dock in Missouri and I never get bit right away and when I threw that hover rig first cast I let my z man streaks 3.75 inch soft jerk bait hit bottom then twitched it twice and pow nice small mouth. I haven't been able to fish for 2 years so thanks alot you know how good that felt getting bit right away but it's the way that bait glides through the water collom like a real dying bait fish . Excellent job by you and Johnny. This is a bait that is going to catch fish all the time. Thanks so much especially for this hover rig bait . God bless
You are right on, I had this situation at Clearlake in calif. The water was like almost mud. A large blue lucky craft rip bait saved the day. Thank You

One of the best days in muddy water I have had I put on a DT4 in tennesse shad just to play around because nothing was working like usual spinnerbait chatterbaits loud squarebill. I thought it was weird because DT4 is silent but I guess the solid white sides and the shimmy was what they wanted.
I always try to fish the mudlines. When it comes to Double Willow Spinner Baits, they are not all made the same. Some brands really move water like a wind sock.
The thing I've noticed about muddy water is that it's all about what the fish are used to. If the water where you're fishing is generally gin-clear- and now it's like chocolate milk- you're going to have a hard time. But if it's always muddy or pretty stained up- it doesn't seem to affect the bite near as much. Unfortunately- most of the waters I fish are clear- because they're rivers and creeks (running water) if it hasn't rained recently- they get crystal clear. So when they get muddy- the fish shut down. They go find cover and sit still until it clears up again. If you can drop it right on their head- you've got a 50-50 shot at them biting- but it literally has to hit their nose. And even then- half the time they'll run from it. And those odds go down with size- the larger the bass, the older it is- the less likely it is to bite. The smaller ones seem programmed not to pass up a meal if it's that close. But that programming fades with time.
What do you think the bass do with chocolate mud running into the backs of creeks from incoming floodwaters? #1 Head upstream to incoming food? #2 Go to the closest hard cover on the bank? #3 follow the mud line downstream towards main lake? It really screws up the existing good crappie bite for a while in the small creeks during early spring around here when weโre bank fishing. Catfish on the other hand go on a feeding frenzy. Thatโs when I pull out the cat gear.
Hell fishing in the burbs of California most of the lakes are muddy, thanks for the tips

Good stuff dude. ๐๐ฝ It got really muddy out here by me this past year due to an abnormal amount of rain. I had to adjust my game a bit, and absolutely killed em on white and chartreuse spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. ๐ฃ๐๐ค๐ฝ
Thanks!
Thanks Matt
Wow!!! super informative on this video, I love the idea of how important shade lines are, great stuff!!!
