  1. Of all the sonar explanations I have watched, nobody has thought to explain the shadow images of fish that occur at the outer edge of the sonar cone. Nobody has tried to explain this from a down view (i.e. bullseye image of cone width enlarging with increased depth).
It might behoove the author to add an isometric detail of a cone and the reasoning why you don't see "shadow" fish blips in the upper half of the graph.Personally, I am one of those people who litter their path with marker buoys, especially when drifting deep cover.

  2. What no one explains is if the down imaging is a flat cone shooting out left and right at the certain degree or is it a round cone shooting a big circle at the certain degree all around…… By the image on the screen I think it's got to be just a thin flat cone????

  3. I hear you are telling about a cone…but the image show cylindrical shape. The right one is a cone shape…the beam gets wider when it gets deeper. There should be a interpreter on the web. It will let you know how wide it will be at certain depth. I have my own in camera photos. Took that from a guy that went on an education about sonars

  4. Sorry I am jus learning about graphing, just got my first boat and I have dual lowrance Elite FS9 3-1. I have a Question. Why am I not getting a similar image on my front graph as my console graph? Both are set to the same settings. It’s not the settings what I mean is on my console down scan I will see a rock pile or side scan and then I will waypoint it. Go to the waypoint and get in the trolling motor. Look down and the downscan image isn’t what I was seeing on the console. Do I have to be trolling to get the same image like I was when I was idling ? Sorry if that doesn’t make sense. Like I said I’m new boater been fishing for a long time though. I’ve been watching the videos for a few years and I’ve learned a ton. Just was wondering why am I not getting a good clear image on the front like I was at the wheel

  5. Phenomenal Information. Thanks…

My fishery consist mostly of soft bottomed (mud) canals with bunches on lay downs. The average canal is no more than 8 feet deep. The canal widths are around 75-100 ft wide. Will side imaging (transducer mounted to trolling water) work well? I have never seen one in action or used one.

  6. I’m pretty sure you can long hold or scroll on the screen where the fish or structure is and the fish finder will tell you how far you are from that spot and it will mark it on your map.

  7. I saw in another video that you have your transducer mounted higher then mine.I used the template that cane with the kit and mine is lower. I have a skeeter and I know the hull is different but should I mount mine similar to yours?

  8. I AGREE WITH THE COMMENT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE MINE. YOU HAVE A GREAT WAY OF SIMPLIFYING WHAT MANY OTHERS HAVE TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO ME. I JUST WANT TO CONFIRM ONE OBSERVATION. WHEN YOU DISCUSS "DISTANCE FROM BOAT" IN THIS VIDEO, IN ALL REALITY THAT DOESN'T MATTER. IF YOUR CRUISING AROUND MARKING COVER AND FISH THEN COMING BACK IT DOESN'T MATTER CORRECT?

  9. You went to a lot of trouble with this and I want you to know it's appreciated. One question I'd have is if you're stationary and see a fish swim by your transducer is there ANY way to know in what direction that fish is swimming?

  10. Hello there! Great video!

I am about to buy a Garmin Striker fish-finder and I wonder if this equipment can function also horizontally and not only vertically. Our goal is to monitor fish passing from a specific section of a 15m-wide river. We want to station the Striker underwater on one slope of the river to record all the underwater area down to the opposite slope. (So the measured depth would be the distance of the opposite underwater slope of the river).

Also, do you know if Strikers saves somewhere its recorded data (depths, time, recorded fish, monitoring video or images) so we can retrieve it for further analysis? (Like a data logger) Thank you very much!

  11. Really helpful video…ty!

Can you tell me where I should set my screen speed if I'm sitting stationary…let's say for ice fishing? Thank you.

  12. Thank you for the education video! At 2:31, you explained that where the black area (water) meets the yellow area is the bottom of the lake. Could you explain the rest of the yellow area beneath the bottom line? I cannot find any resources that explain that portion of the graph. Thank you.

  13. I would like to tell you that this video was very well made. I bought a fishfinder not long ago for the first time and was very intimidated when I tried to use it until I saw this video. Now I fish with great confidence using it. The way you broke the video down made it very easy to follow along. I've watched a handful of other videos that you've put out and they are equally awesome. Thank you for all the content and keep up the good work.👍
