Cold Front Turns On the Bass! | Kayak Fishing in High Winds

After several days of extreme heat, a cold front moved through, bringing cooler temperatures, strong winds, and a Waxing Gibbous Moon. Instead of staying home, I launched the kayak to see if the changing conditions would get the bass feeding.

Knowing the wind would be a challenge, I brought the trolling motor so I could spend more time fishing and less time fighting to stay on my spots. It turned out to be the right decision because the largemouth bass were biting throughout the trip.

I believe the combination of the cold front, the drop in temperature after the heat wave, and the Waxing Gibbous Moon helped trigger the bite. Weather and moon phases can have a big impact on fish behavior, and this trip was a great example of how changing conditions can create some excellent fishing.

If you’ve ever noticed bass becoming more active after a cold front or during certain moon phases, let me know your experience in the comments.
