Every Summer I use one of the Mattlures series swimbaits and always catch big bass with them. I have used the bluegill and crappie patterns in the past, but I decided to go with the Ultimate Shad this trip. We targeted areas 5-7 ft deep near wood. As always, I suggest adding the bottom treble to these swimbaits to help with the hookup ratio.

  1. I just ordered some of these. The marina area I fish here in OK, it connects to the Arkansas river via small 50yd or 60yd (+/-) canal and you can catch anything from gar, to sand bass, small striper, to skipjack, to bass, to crappie, catfish, bluegill, and everything else in between on shad all day! It's a great area to fish from the bank or boat. Further one of the embankments was destroyed by the floods last year.

  2. we have a few areas around here that are fairly secluded and tend to be swimbait friendly in the late spring and early summer, switching to big worms in the late summer and early fall. Awesome tips in your videos

  3. Hey Stephen, great video! I was wondering what knot you were using on the Ultimate Shad? I picked one up from Bama Frogs last fall and absolutely love it! And this is just a random question, but in your experiences do you think male or female bluegill get eaten by bass more? Haha that question doesn't really matter, but great video again!

  4. How come you don't hold your baitcaster by the trigger? I see you just hold it by the lower end of the rod. I thought the triggers on baitcast rods help with leverage?

  5. How are you fishing those? I have the shad and the bluegill and I cant keep them down. Fishing 18lb flouro and reeling slow but still cant keep the baits from breaching the surface constantly.
