We got the opportunity to fish with Hall Of Famer, Larry Dahlberg on Clearlake and it was awesome! Larry’s first ever bite on Clearlake was an 8 lber and we captured the footage as it happened! Listen to the story and watch the footage as Matt breaks down that incredible day.
Listening to an angler with Larry’s years of experience will change how you think. Getting the opportunity to fish together is something truly remarkable. If you ever have the opportunity to spend time with Larry or any other knowledgable angler, take the time to do it. Its amazing what can be gleaned from even short conversations with these people.
The time spent with Larry was something we don’t take lightly, nor will we forget. We’re lucky to have the footage to share with you and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Below is a break down of the gear used in the video as well as the products that Larry has developed.

How have I never seen this video until now?!?! Larry is definitely a childhood hero!!
The bag bass kings themselves
Have you ever talked about Lake Biwa?
Look at Larry’s old fly fishing videos. Giant Pike on flies. The guy is a legend. “ In Fisherman “.
I miss “Toad” fishing for BIG Catfish.
Love the underwater whopper plopper footage! Larry is the man!
Your videos the last few months show a fire in you. I think I get where that fire is coming from and all I can say is keep it coming! GREAT STUFF! Best on YT by far .
Listening to you talk about your passion for fishing and being outdoors made me want to let you know that watching TacticalBassin' videos has reignited the passion I have for fishing. Your excitement really comes through and I get excited too and then I end up spending a lot of money on Tackle Warehouse but that's half the fun. I'm really glad I found your website, thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge.
Awesome! Fishing with Mr. Dahlberg is definitely an experience of a lifetime! One of my "bucket list" dreams is coming out to Clear Lake and hiring you as a guide!

I'm An All Species Fisherman,I Would Love To Go To South America And Catch Wolffish And Monster Peacock Bass
Matt You Are Lucky To Fish With Larry,I Hope Hunt For Big Fish Returns To TV.
Matt, You need to make a trip down to Louisiana and do some inshore and offshore fishing.
Something about Matt saying.. "Put that boat in the water !" Makes me want to fight the wind, rain and cold and JUST GO ! hahaha
Crazy how the creator of the Plopper would rather pitch and flip a bait into grass instead of running the plopper down the grass line.. shows you right there that the tried and true approaches will always out do the fancy stuff.. $4 setup over a $18 lure. Yep, just like I say on my channel. Fish simple, simply catch fish.
Have you guys fished the River2Sea Mr.Whiggley? Any thoughts on a soft plastic glide bait? Basically like fishing a giant fluke.
Absolutely awesome! The cross species thing is key. I'm mainly a salt water fisherman and i hit the bass in between. The past year and half I've followed with tactical, I have implemented so many strategies from what you guys do with bass, to predatory fish in the ocean, with the same idea, a predator is a predator, and will act similarly. And it has not only changed the way I fish, but my results as well. Awesome video, thanks for all you guys do for the tactical family!
Another awesome vid!!! Thanks Matt!!
You guys need to do a husband and wife tourney
Love the videos guys! Keep up the good work!
My wife just said isn't fishing season over? I said there is no season lol I fish 12 months a year!
Next fall in late September come to Michigan. I'll take you guys out on the Perre Marquette and go hook on to some king salmon. If you're interested get ahold of me on Instagram @envy_fishing.
I had a chance to sit and talk with Larry that day. Pretty humble guy.
Larry Dahlberg also had a huge impact on the fly-fishing world when he developed his original Dahlberg Diver, a floating deer hair fly that would dive, swim and resurface.
What an honor to spend a day on the water with a passionate and innovative fisherman. Respect!
Very well said Matt. Love to see that professional attitude of just gettin' – it – done, and with such enjoyment. Although I've fell out of a boat once while fighting a giant smallie. Ended up losing the fish, but at least I had a relaxing bath that day. lol
You guys are also part of the hall of fame !!
love the story and i hear what you mean i bass fish year around. But i take 2 or 3 trips a year to the ocean with my pops and grandpa. i apply the same things in the ocean as i do in a lake or river.
Cool story………Just the other day ( Nov. 15, 2018 ) I fished the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 ( as I have for years since 2001, sometimes multiple times a week ) and caught a 7 lb 12 oz bass ( just shy of 8 ) on a small #90 Whopper Plopper, and only 20 minutes later, caught a 6 lb 14 oz bass ( just a pinch shy of 7 ) on the Florida classic favorite lure, the Bomber Long-A. Back on June 11, 2016, I caught a 12 lb bass ( my fourth 12 lb'er ) on the #90 Whopper Plopper……and every year, I catch at least several bass between 7 to 8 lbs on both the Whopper Plopper and/or the original #15-A Bomber Long-A. Of all the hard jerkbaits I've fished over the years, for some reason, the old Bomber Long-A seems to entice the bigger bass here in Florida, and it is a year round bait here, if conditions are right. So is the Whopper Plopper, if the surface has a good ripple & the bite is on. Actually, the Whopper Plopper is a near exact copy of a lure that's been used for many years by Muskie fishermen, only the WP is downsized. For some reason, the big Stick Marsh bass seem to prefer the higher pitched buzzing sound of the small #90 WP, over the larger sizes, although I do catch quality size fish on the size #110, that I only break out when the surface is too rough for the tiny #90. I'm sure my own observations are unique to my area, and not the case for other parts of the country. I definitely like the hooks better on the 110 WP though. And it does catch big fish……..just not as often it's little sister, the #90. I am BLESSED to live so close to the Stick Marsh/Farm 13. To date, I've caught four 12 lb'ers and thirteen 10 lb'ers, and about as many 9's. I literally lost count on the bass I've caught there ranging from 6 to 8 lbs.
Hey just an idea I came up with the other day for a modification for flukes I came up with this idea while changing out hooks and split rings on my jerk baits today I took a standard ewg super line hook and added a split ring to the front of the hook and used this for a Texas ringed fluke my thought proses was the split ring will act just like it would on a hard jerk bait and allow the bait more freedom of movement and make it cut hard left and right because it won't be restricted by a direct line tie to the hook it worked like a charm way more action on the fluke another benefit was it added a little more weight to the front of the fluke so i could work the bait about a foot deeper than with no split ring and yes some people would say just use a loop knot but in my experience a loop knot is nowhere near as strong as a split ring and in weedless bait you have punch through some plastic in addition to using a super line hook you need to get hook penetration a loop knot is fine for top waters where treble hooks are in play and you don't need crazy power to set those so the split ring on a fluke just made more sense to me just a tip you can try this coming spring/summer love your channel keep up the amazing content I have been a sub sense 2008 and have looked forward to your uploads every time I even met you both at the boat ramp at Clearlake around 2010 ish I felt like I had met my idols that day have a great holiday season and spend some time with the fams god bless from all the tactical family

Story time! With winter coming, I'm sure there'll be more!… here's some ideas if they help:
Tips on taking non fishermen out? Or limited experience people?
Fishing with kids, a spouse, or both could be another good one.
General boat care/maintenance.
Gear care/maintenance.
Preparing boats for the spring, after sitting over the winter. Or tips on keeping boats happy during winter trips.
I'm sure more kayak vids would get some views.
Maybe bring in a couple guests? That jerkbait vid you did (last year?) was pretty cool.
On that, maybe team up with a fly fisherman and show the similarities and differences between the styles.
A tournament between you two could be cool. Totally separate in your own boats with a weigh in at the end of the day/time limit.
Maybe a couples tournament, then switch up spouses for round 2.
The different approaches to fishing large vs. medium vs. small lakes and reservoirs.
Tips on making a guided trip go smoothly, or better.
Maybe some advice from Tim on interacting with game wardens in the field? I always them a cold water when I get stopped/checked.
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head… Maybe it helps.
Larry is the man!! I've watched him on TV for years and also read many of his articles! He is truly a passionate fisherman and a wealth of knowledge…. fishing with Larry must have been awsome!
I remember when Larry came to Virginia. He fished the James river and caught a 50 inch Musky.
Been Watching Larry since the early In-fisherman day,Thanks for sharing
You needn't have worried. Larry Dahlberg was a heck of a basser, back before he started globe trotting.
Y’all need to go peacock fishing in Brazil. i think it would be cool to see if you guys could catch em on LMB gear. Swavers, etc.
The great legend himself! Awesome!
Have you guys ever done a Muskie video? If not that would be an interesting one to conquer. I know I'd watch it and see how you guys brakedown how to fish for one of the, what I think most people would consider to be, hardest fish to target.
Can I catch bass in winter in a cove on a dock in 13 feet of water? And do you guys ever bass fish at night?
I love how when it jumped he never flinched or anything
Love when you guys do the big Swimbait videos. Really fell in love with throwing nothing but the big stuff, I have one question? Which would you prefer, Hinkle Trout or Roman Made Mother. Caught a few 8’s and 9’s this year on all the big bait that y’all have shown from 6 inches and above. I’m trying to catch me a double digits
. Again thank you so much for the video because your advice made me start catching bass consistently.
