Catch More Big Bass With BLACK Creature Baits | R 50 Dam

Bass Fishing with a black creature bait is a pretty common thing to do in bass fishing. In this video you will see why the Berley Creature Hawg is my choice of creature bait.

It all started on a cold and overcast autumn morning. I decided to take the trip down to Rust In Orbi AKA the R 50 dam in Alberton to do some bank fishing for bass. Going bass fishing in Autumn time is always tricky due to the weather being overcast and always threatening to rain but this doesn’t make bass fishing in autumn tough.

Bass in autumn time in the year go shallow to feed on any type of food. The food also needs to hide away in cover around the dams to avoid being eaten by bass. This is why I chose to use a creature style soft plastic to get into the deepest part of the cover.

The black creature baits are a great way to present baits to bass becasue the darker presentation shows up in darker water like, Muddy and even shady cover. The Black creature bait is a great lure colour to be using in every situation you are faced in your bass fishing adventures.

The R 50 is a very dirty and highly pressured body of water. The bass fishermen and carp anglers fish at the R 50 dam every weekend and this is where you as an angler need to be smarter then the other bass anglers. Think like a bass and thing about where those bass go when they want to avoid bass anglers. Cover is the answer, Reeds in this case is the most pronoun cover to fish. The Berkley Creature Hawg also has the MAXscent technology built in it and this will even enhance the pressured bass to bite you bait.

So In the morning I threw around that Berkley Slobberknocker to see I could get a reaction bite from the edges of the reeds. The SlobberKnocker didn’t seem to atract any bass due to the colder weather that we have been having. After the SlobberKnocker I decided to slow down my presentation by throwing the free rig. I used a Black general to entice the bass to bite in the shallow water. The General didn’t work so I started throwing around that flipping rig in the shallows and even in all the reed clumps I could fish.

Flipping reeds in dirty water is always a good way to catch bass.

  1. I love that dam. I haven't tried fir bass there in year's, but down that channel I have caught a 2.4 on a frog. Decent fish on Zara spook, and before the changes a decent fish on a Yum dinger, I have seen the size of the carp there and that has been my target for the last couple of year's
