California SwimBait Bass Fishing Making the right adjustments by Mesh matt

California swimbait fishing can be tough most of the time. If the bite is off, try making the correct adjustments like lighter line or downsizing the bait. Try to match what the fish are eating, consider the clearity of the water, the water temp and weather conditions. I was having no luck on a bright blue spring day on a clear mother load lake. I made the adjustments then started catching fish. if you arelucky enough to spend the day on the water fishing you need to take advantage of that time and make it productive. On this day I caught 7 fish on Lake Pardee from ,I fished from 7:30 to about 1:30.The large Bass weighed 6lbs 8 oz, I had two over 3 lbs and 2 over 2 lbs for my limit that weighed 17 lbs 3 oz . I caught the bigger fish on the downsized river2sea swimbait in ghost with 8 lb test the others on a dropshot 4″ worn with 6lb test. Pardee only has northern strain Largemouth in it, no Florida strain. The biggest difference is the color, northerns are much greener, also I seem to believe that northerns have a smaller mouth for there size plus they get really football shaped. later the same day I couldn’t pass up the oppurtunity to hit lake amador on the way home for 2 1/2 hrs of fishing from 3:45-6:15. I caught around 20 including 9 over 3 lbs. No giants but I did see a double digit cruiser! Have fun and buy your next fishing hat at WWW.MESHHAT.COM!

  1. Hi, I very my retrieve based on what the fish want on the day. But traditionally a slow steady retrieve works best because planted trout usually just slowly putt along as they swim. However in clearer waters I will speed it up to get a reaction bite and less time for the Bass to inspect the lure and make a quick decision to eat
