This week I’m officially stepping into my first boat tournament, fishing the Florida Bass Nation Pro-Am on Lake Santa Fe.

Pre-fishing didn’t make it easy on me. We had a brutal cold front roll through with overnight lows in the 20s, strong wind, and tough conditions across the lake.

I spent the day running water and hunting for quality bites, not numbers. I started with a small bass flipping Kissimmee grass, followed by a 2.5-pounder on a stick bait, and capped the day off with a 4.5-pound bass on a big glide bait.

It was a slow grind, but finding a few quality fish gave me confidence heading into tournament day.
