New October 20, 2026 2 views

Three bass tournament anglers were banned following a controversial fish transfer at Lock E9 on New York’s Mohawk River / Erie Canal. But what happened AFTER the fish changed hands may be just as controversial as the incident itself.

Two young anglers, an older competitor, and one fish at the center of a tournament scandal that has raised serious questions about cheating, tournament rules, fairness, and how fishing organizations handle disciplinary decisions.

Was this a clear-cut case of tournament cheating? Or were three anglers punished through a process that deserves closer scrutiny?

In this investigation, we examine what reportedly happened on the water, the circumstances surrounding the fish transfer, the NBS Team Trail’s response, the reported involvement of other tournament organizations, and the questions that remain unanswered.

We also take a closer look at the reported lack of publicly available written tournament rules, conflicting accounts surrounding the disciplinary process, and whether the punishment fits the circumstances.

This isn’t about asking you to blindly defend or condemn anyone. It’s about getting the facts, hearing the different perspectives, and asking questions that deserve answers.

Were these anglers cheaters, victims of an unfair process, or is the truth somewhere in between?
