Big Swimbaits on Smith Lake

Today we’re fishing Lewis Smith Lake in northern Alabama with my good friend, Barry Maner of Decatur, AL.I’ve filmed several TV shows with Barry here in Alabama and down in Florida! It’s the end of March and the water temps are in the lower 60’s. We start off looking for big spotted bass but end up way back in a dingy warmer water pocket and start catching big largemouth from 3-6 pounds. Wake baits and glide baits really pay off and we explain how we use them. A super day on Smith Lake with a 20 pound plus bag ! Wow!

  1. What is up with the first 5 or six you showed and no spots? On smith? Lol that’s kinda not easy to do there actually. And all really good ones too; I love it. It’s because you had a Florida boy with you. 😂😂Last time I was there it was a little like that. I had took a cousin who was up visiting promising him some big spots. We did catch some spots. A lot actually… but except for one maybe 3, they were all 10-12 inch dinks. The largemouth were not so easy to come by. I think we caught 7 LM total, but the size was great. Every largemouth bite we got was close to 5. I think those big spots can smell the Florida on a fella 😂😂.
