Big NYC Reservoir Winter Bridge Fishing for Decent Bass & Fat Pickerel

Big NYC Reservoir Winter Bridge Fishing for Decent Bass & Fat Pickerel. Bear with us in the beginning of this fine fishing video. This is fishing. Minus the trout stream I think we were the only 2 out on the entire reservoir chain. We fished around some reservoir bridges for most the day after a scenic stop. The hope always, hit big the first stop. Don’t work like that too often in winter. 3 stops and 1 big beautiful yellow perch to start the day. Both not content, yet. Save the best for last. It is snowing out. 1/8oz jigs with minnow and grub plopping in the water. Sun is beginning to hit below the gray skied New York City Reservoir treetops and finally, bass on. Sun dropping, we dart to the other side after a couple of quick jokes. Sun glasses off. All serious and the fishing began. It was a volley of noteworthy fat winter pickerel and decent bass. Excitement was both bottled and bubbling, as the sun dropped below the NYC Reservoir tree stumps, and the night began.

Winter fishing goes most often as such. This is a good thing to know. A better thing to know is you will be rewarded if you put in your time and effort. I can not say all of the time, but most of the time you will be rewarded. Winter fishing goes most often as such.

  1. Your stressing that fish more then necessary by not just getting the job done. Pick the damn thing up stop being a drama queen with your little delicate hands shaking like a virgin. That was pathetic 🥱

  2. You need a net with an extendable handle because eventually you will catch something very big. My knees are toast so its a must for me. Some of those reservoirs have monster pickerel if there is a lot of sawbellies present for forage.

Ever try a Roadrunner? Basically what you were fishing with a single blade underneath. I caught a 20+ inch smallmouth from the shore at Lake Wallenpaupak on one, pre spawn, late May.

  3. What strikes me is how clean the places you fish are around NYC. I live in the SE and it's discouraging to go fishing because every accessible fishing spot and roadside is full of garbage thrown on the ground. Even where there are garbage cans, there is garbage on the ground, because people are too lazy to walk a few steps to throw things out properly. I grew up in NJ in the 60's and went back a few years ago to trout fish the streams I fished as a boy with my dad. I spent a week in NJ and only found one cigarette butt on the ground. Also, caught tons of trout! Don't mean to sound negative, but just hoping people here learn to respect the outdoors. Great video, Jerry! Thanks again for sharing your adventures.

  4.
