  1. Thanks Randy. Most of the fisheries I tend to favor here in Northern Cali all have spots, so always looking for insight to catch more. I remember you did a video last year about catching a ton of spots on the "french fry" type plastic. Just wondering if that is still on your list of top baits for catching spots?

  2. Good video I’ve been looking for some good swim bait heads. I’ll try those out. It’s been quite a few years since I fished the tube kind of forgot about it I caught big ones and very cold weather on it

  3. I am number 1965. All great baits for spots here in Central Alabama. I must say I don’t use the tube much, but I know it works. I would add a Rapala #5 Shad Rap, and a War Eagle 3/8 oz ball head jig with a small Zoom Tiny Crawler trailer.

  4. I agree with most of what you said. The exception would be on imunity. The corrupt DA's in any state could bring false charges to any politician they don't like. Look around it's happening now.

  5. Most bass fishing videos focus on largemouth bass and smallmouth bass but my primary lake is Lake Ouachita, which is a highland reservoir and the primary fish that I catch is spotted bass. I would agree with your bait selection but would add Ned rigs in the winter and dropshot rigs in the summer. Spybaits a produce almost the entire year as long as the water is clear. Great job and would love more videos on spotted bass.

  6. I and 1,386 other people watched your spotted bass video in the last 24 hours. So it is not true that noone watched. I appreciate concise and specific content, so thank you. I understand that you would like more views, but blame is not a good way to get them.

  7. I agree your list is “spot” on! On Belews Lake in NC I have really good success with the spark shad on the okashira jig head and a downsized finesse jig. It’s a powerplant lake I only fish in winter and early spring.

  8. In Fl…not so much. Plus spots are reducing the population of shoal bass by hybridization. I recently caught my first shoal in over 25 years. Officially they were a called a redeye, but us natives new they were different. If you haven’t hooked a shoal or a suwannee you are missing out. Please don’t come to fl looking for one, lol. It takes years to get one.

  9. 1. A walking top water. I prefer smaller more compact ones that will walk super fast… I may even switch to a popper that will walk if I am fishing a small enough area. The main reason I choose the walker to begin with is because it can cover water faster. Here , bigger spots are notorious for cruising edges on some pretty expansive flats. It’s awesome because they are usually active and feeding in packs of 3-6 fish. This can be a tournament winning plan here almost anytime you have relatively clear water except for the coldest time of the year. If there is cloud cover and bait on the flats, it can be the most fun you’ll ever have. It’s also amazing how far you can draw big spots up to hit a top water. It’s not unusual to pull them up from depths of 20-25’. And it is a BIG fish technique.
    2. A lipless crank bait… same reason as the walking bait, except if there’s wind, it can’t be beat! Especially when it’s pushing the bait shallower, there is no better way to cover lots of water than fan casting and burning a heavy lipless. Also, If you are fishing with a partner, always cast behind them whenever they get bit. Unlike Largemouth, big spots are usually not alone. They get extremely competitive and vulnerable if one is hooked. I’ve watched them take the lure away from one another so many times I couldn’t count. Doubles are common and from my experience, the biggest fish is usually not the first one to bite. So casting behind your buddy while he’s fighting one is a good way to catch an even bigger one. 😊 Also, speed kills. Unless they are super shallow, I like the most compact and heaviest lipless baits I can find for this technique. Profound makes a heavy version of their shaker Z that is basically a 3/4 oz bait in a 1/2 oz size. Also, if you’re in an area with a lot of fish, rotating colors and between normal rattles and one knockers and even silent ones can get you a lot lot lot more bites.
    3. Jerk bait. What Randy said… especially when it’s cold. I also use it to go back through water I have covered with the previous methods to get rid few more fish from the area. lol This is also a great way to catch the biggest fish in the area and to double up.
    4. Here’s where I really diverge from the norm. 4 for me is a skirted grub. Anywhere you would fish a shaky head, a hula grub on a stand up head will catch them. It’s my go to when it’s cold and the bite is slow and for highly pressured fish. Ditto for finess jigs. It’s great for clay and rock bottom. It can be rigged on a football head for a stealthier presentation anywhere you would drag a normal football jig. It has saved many high pressure blue bird kind of days for me. If the sun has them positioned on the bottom, this can be dynamite. It’s also the way I caugh my pb spot. A 6.8 behemoth that felt like I had foul hooked a Mako on 6lb test. Lol
    5. A 1/2 oz swim bait. I’m still a big fan of the storm wild eye baits. I like both smoke and pearl color and I love dipping the tail in chartreuse dye. Whenever they are on the ledges or points and deeper than 15 feet, this is my starting bait.

If you have read this far… Huge Thanks for listening to my 5 spotted bass lures and techniques. You Rock! Good luck and tight lines friends.

  10. I fished a jerk bait today with a spinning rod for the first time. I now understand why, and I love using my baitcasters. I don't like to use anything else, but after what I learned today, I'll put it down.

  11. I am 1.5 hours from Lake Weiss, 1 hour from Carters Lake, and 2 hours from Lake Chatuge. I have never met a spotted bass that wouldn't bite a Yamamoto twin tail Hula Grub. That'a my go to.
