Best Line for Bass Fishing | The Answer May Surprise You!!

I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about when to use different types of fishing line. So in this video, I explain the differences between monofilament, fluorocarbon and braided fishing line and talk about the different baits and techniques I use them for. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Hey, I know this is older. But I could use an opinion. I have used suffix elite for a long time. It’s limp, no line memory and cast really well.
My question is… in your opinion, is Berkley big game better than the suffix elite??

  2. Trilene Big Game shines in the water and in my opinion doesn't work very well for bass fishing, though it's excellent for other species such as catfish for example.. For years I have been using Berkeley Vanish and Fluoroshield copolymer, and they definitely work. But when I was a beginner, a long, long time ago, we only had monofilament lines. I still use Maxima chameleon.
Oh yes and another tip for those who don't know. If your budget is limited or whatever, you can get by with only two rods. One rigged with lighter mono/copolymer for topwater and shallow fishing with weightless plastics, and one with a good braid backing, to which you can attach a leader of fluorocarbon or heavier copolymer/mono (or just attach the lure straight to the braid when fishing discolored water with a big spinnerbait for example). Hope this helps out!

  3. Hours on the water equals experience. Regardless of age, the more you fish the more experience you gain. Age really doesn't come into play. I'm 62 and many young anglers have more experience than I do. Moral of the story. Fish as much as possible.

  4. New Subscriber here. You talk a lot of sense, so thank you 👍. ( just come back to fishing after many years, braid/ fluorocarbon wasn't an option). At the end of the day it all about trial and error, and what works for the individual. Take care and stay safe 🙏. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  5. Braid -to-mono is what I use on spinning gear. I use moss green braid (blends in nicely) and mono for a little stretch and abrasion resistance compared to floro and braid.

  6. Most important aspect of lines is consistency of line to prevent breakage. Next time your line breaks note what brand it is. There is one brand that always breaks: TRILENE!!!!!

  7. Great Video. However due to the line visibility concern for any line. I have always believed that if theyre going to bite it they are going to bite it. What about the 3 big treble hooks hanging off said lure? Do the fish see those?

  8. Mono definitely improves landing ratio with treble hook baits because the stretch keeps the hook(s) loaded when you hook up and fish can't throw the bait as easy.

  9. Have been fishing way longer than you have been alive. I can say I have had big brand lines that have failed in batches. I was a trilene user til I came across a bad batch that I couldn't even tie a knot without it breaking. Switched to stren and have used it since. However I now use trilenebig game both mono and braid with success I still use stren on certain rods but if I'm going in to tough areas or going after toothy fish I use big game. Cost is not really a determination of what line I buy it is what my local shops carry. Sun line is something I would try if it was available but haven't seen it in my local shops. I try to shop mom and pops places and they don't have large inventory most often. New to the game try as many you can if you can afford it. That's the best way to learn what you like. Of course it depends on what gear you use and that learning curve as to putting line on your reels. Baitcaster is way easier to load than a spinner. And the knot you use also plays a role in which line is best for your lure choice.

  10. VERY INFORMATIVE! Thank You! A quick tutorial concerning the abrasive resistance qualities in these different lines (especially fluorocarbon) would've been much appreciative. Great video, though.

  11. When I was “new” to baitcasters. I recommend practicing and getting more comfortable on monofilament. Its cheap and easy to replace. I caught a couple of big bass on texas rigs on 17lb trilene big game mono. After you get “comfortable” dump it.

  12. I've never broken off on a fish I'm using 30 ilb. Braid and 16 pound fluoro though also just use the swivels so you don't have to cut fluro off when you tie and it keeps a big one from cutting it

  13. I found the best all around line is actually copolymer. Only a few companies make a true copolymer (izorline xxx, McCoy, Trilene, and only 1 or two others that I know of, the rest are just coated mono) but it seems to have just about all of the benefits of flouro and mono, without any real downsides. Speaking specific to izorline xxx, its sensitive, some stretch, incredibly durable, neutral buoyancy, and it's cheap (like $17 for a 1 lbs spool) I use it on literally everything now except real heavy duty stuff that I need braid for, and spinning rods, I still use braid…my landing ratio is better than anything else I've ever used.

  14. I use 1/2 braid and the remainder flurocarbon using the double uni and when tied correctly it will never fail, I've never had it fail, but I'm not a professional fisherman, but I catch a lot of tough fish (fresh water) , never a knot failure, ever.
