Berkley Lightning Shock Rod Breaks Landing a BIG Bass!

Finally had a chance to get the 2-man boat to do some sight fishing for bedding bass this past weekend at Bay Lake in Lamar SC.

Most of the beds were already empty except for a few we found, this one held a nice size largemouth bass with both male and female guarding the bed.

In the process of landing the bass, my 6′ 6″ Berkley Lightning Shock Medium Heavy baitcasting rod breaks into two pieces, not sure what happened exactly but it broke. I’ve landed most of my biggest bass and huge mudfish with this rod earlier this year and I’m a bit disappointed that it broke not even a year old.

  1. Has anyone seen the newer version of this rod? It has a clear plastic reel seat instead of cork. And let me tell you. It's cheap and weak plastic. The rod won't be breaking. The part that screws down on the reel will. It cracks very easily. So it can't handle any pressure at all. Snags and big fish. Forget about it.

  2. I snapped mine off trying to rip lose a snag. It was my favorite caster until that happened. Sooo I went and got the new version. Im not all broke up over it after all it is just a $40 rod and i had three seasons with it until I got stupid with it.

  3. Dang man you high sticked em into the net, shoulda just scooped with the net but I probably would’ve done the same after getting a biggin to bite after a while

  4. This what happens when you use 80 pound braid and don't know what your doing….honestly the bottom line is the stuff is just hard on equipment. But you have to be careful because braid has zero forgiveness. You don't need that much pressure. To get a good hook in a fish and use your drag when fighting ..Try using 15 lb diawa j braid x8 its pretty soft for a braid. And its as strong as youll ever need. 80lb braid is 5x overkill…

  5. That can be a really trying and difficult thing to do when they are on bed. Nice job. I sent you a sub. I have a lot of nice bass fishing videos also with one where we caught 20.95lbs on five fish to finish 7th in a Lake Eufaula tournament. If you get the chance, check out my channel and return the favor if you like what you see.
