Finally had a chance to get the 2-man boat to do some sight fishing for bedding bass this past weekend at Bay Lake in Lamar SC.
Most of the beds were already empty except for a few we found, this one held a nice size largemouth bass with both male and female guarding the bed.
In the process of landing the bass, my 6′ 6″ Berkley Lightning Shock Medium Heavy baitcasting rod breaks into two pieces, not sure what happened exactly but it broke. I’ve landed most of my biggest bass and huge mudfish with this rod earlier this year and I’m a bit disappointed that it broke not even a year old.
Broke mine using it on the second trip berkley seems to be aware of the issue on these rods got a quick response from customer service
Was contacting Berkley helpful at all? I bought the spinning version and it snapped on the second day, I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I have 2nd thoughts purchasing a berkeley rod through too much comments on breaking.
Has anyone seen the newer version of this rod? It has a clear plastic reel seat instead of cork. And let me tell you. It's cheap and weak plastic. The rod won't be breaking. The part that screws down on the reel will. It cracks very easily. So it can't handle any pressure at all. Snags and big fish. Forget about it.
I snapped mine off trying to rip lose a snag. It was my favorite caster until that happened. Sooo I went and got the new version. Im not all broke up over it after all it is just a $40 rod and i had three seasons with it until I got stupid with it.
U got what u deserved. #karmafish
User Error, you never grab a rod that high under a load…
That’s what u get breaking ur rod messing with a fish on a bed
dude I'm with ya on the rod, been using lightning rods for years, luv em, broke one yesterday hoisting a mere 2lb bass, 2nd trip with this brand new rod, I feel your pain
Ok so I have the same rod it's line rating is 8-14 pound test and looks to me your using a very heavy braid sho I'll say that's your fault 😐
I got 1 way for you to fix that rod: FLEX TAPE
The rod broke because of the way you hoisted the fish….not because of anything else but the way you pulled the bass out the water like the rod is a Crane!!!!!
Dang man you high sticked em into the net, shoulda just scooped with the net but I probably would’ve done the same after getting a biggin to bite after a while
Just bought 2 of the exact same rods at walmart last nite. Regardless price is 39.97…they have em on clearance for 9.97. Apparently Berkley is discontinuing them
This what happens when you use 80 pound braid and don't know what your doing….honestly the bottom line is the stuff is just hard on equipment. But you have to be careful because braid has zero forgiveness. You don't need that much pressure. To get a good hook in a fish and use your drag when fighting ..Try using 15 lb diawa j braid x8 its pretty soft for a braid. And its as strong as youll ever need. 80lb braid is 5x overkill…
I believe that is user error. Bending a rod up like that is a bad move. I did that once but my rod was a 2 piece lightning rod so it just fell apart instead of breaking.
Rookie mistake.. you high sticked the hell out of that rod by trying to flip.
I think the rod is much stronger than that. I think it broke because prior damage and when you reached up past the first eye the weak spot couldn't hold.
I got the same rod been using it for bout 2 years and had no problems with it caught a bunch of Fish on it. Maybe yours had a bad spot in it or something.
You really need to leave spawning bass on the beds and not harass them. It ensures a good population of bass in waters that have been invaded by Asian carp.
That can be a really trying and difficult thing to do when they are on bed. Nice job. I sent you a sub. I have a lot of nice bass fishing videos also with one where we caught 20.95lbs on five fish to finish 7th in a Lake Eufaula tournament. If you get the chance, check out my channel and return the favor if you like what you see.
Not trying to be mean but I think that was your fault it looked like you were trying to flip it then when it broke you used the net but nice fish
Beautiful bass! Worked hard for her! Hate you broke your rod but I’d say it was worth it for that tank! 👍
This was so cool, i dropped a like and subbed was sent by FRANK RACZ
