MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn’t have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey…it should be an honest and fun ride!
I'll admit I didn't watch much of the tournament and here's shy. Admittedly I began watching tournaments when MLF began the every fish counts format's with marshal's on the boat an catch, weigh, release. I enjoyed the format and I find I mostly enjoy knowing where each angler stands at all times. Therefore I have a hard time watching other tournaments and not knowing where (exactly anglers stand). I don't like the weigh in part of tournaments. Not because of anything I think it is or isn't doing to the fish, but because I don't get into the big production of weigh ins. I also don't like watching a tournament all day and then have to spend another hour or more watching guys hold up their fish and talk about how they caught them. I already just watched that. There are no other sporting events that you don't know who's winning in real time. So basically this format isn't for me but if it's what you like than cool.
Hey Todd would fish the poche tournament march 22th on Toledo bend
I wish they had more live coverage of it. They are filling bass live with a silly halftime show and interviews. Made me mad actually. I just wanted to watch fishing.
Garrett said he caught all his fish on 5xd. He caught everyone on Carolina rig!! Does he not no it was all on video. Unbelievable lie foe a sponsor
Bill Lowen caught 4 fish on the final day. Snooze fest
I’m sorry but it was boring.
Thats the reason I like Bass over MLF, with the score tracker you know where you stand and with Bass it's the unknown that makes it interesting.
John Garrett is fishing St. John’s like the Tennessee River. He’s looking for hard bottom, ledges, etc. He’s using a deep crank followed up by a ball and chain. They wouldn’t bite day 4. He missed one that would have won the tournament. Dude is a hammer
This tournament is a perfect example of why not knowing how you competitors are doing adds to the drama and strategy. If Garrett knew Lowen was struggling he simply would’ve gone and filled his limit rather than spend so long in his spot with the jumbos.
He’ll of a tournament . We need more like that!
Ole swimjig is big deal here on Ohio river wins a lot I fish same pool as Bill used too
Lowen was also losing about an hour tide window per day, so maybe that hurt as well or maybe his own pressure. I hoped he'd throw a senko through the area for an hour or so to get #5. It worked out
I agree! Pretty good tournament! The best one I have watched live in a very long time!
If people want drama in fishing this tournament is the kind of drama we need
Yeah Garrett thought he messed up by staying on his primary spot trying to catch big ones because he figured Lowen would catch 18 to 20lbs, he said he should have left to catch a limit and he would have won, but hindsight is 20/20
I thought it was a good tournament.
The tide gets an hour later every day and that hurt Bill. Tidal water is always going to make for a more interesting tournament.
Get kvd on here and get him to break down how he always found the right areas.
I think the "not knowing" adds a ton of stress and makes decisions so much harder for the guys. MLF's format adds drama in a different way. MLF they are getting help to make a decision. In the ELITES the decisions are all on the anglers themselves, which is awesome.
I don’t watch bass fishing much anymore because many of the reasons others don’t, but when I stopped, anglers would factor in topography, time of year, weather, shade/sun/lighting, forage, among many other things during pre tourney and pre fishing. Are you saying anglers just look at old results or online info to figure out where and how to fish!? I must be getting old and sounds like I don’t really regret my decision of not watching bass fishing anymore.
Would love to see John Garrett on the live stream!
Kyoya, Williams, Patrick, JT, Trey, Foutz, Capps, Loberg and Fothergill all finishing below 90th was shocking to me. Pumped for Bill that was an awesome tournament.
Thought it was a great tournament. What you where talking about a few weeks ago with people not signing up for Toyotas happened at santee at the bfl last weekend. I know for a fact a bunch of guys didn’t fish it because of scope. Think it is real going to start effecting tournament fishing. Only 62 guys signed up. Check it out
The best was watching Logan Parks live feed from his own boat without any commentary…This is the future of B.A.S.S. they should negotiate with Starlink for a deal and put it on every Elite Angler's boat. Each Angler should own their broadcast feed right with highlighting their sponsors on their feed. Then B.A.S.S. can rotate between the anglers and broadcast live so when someone is catching them they can cut to that angler. It would be a win win for everyone. The Angler's support their sponsors & can stream their own fishing day. B.A.S.S. would have the rights to cut into the anglers stream and broadcast so no one misses the action & reduces production costs. The viewers win cause they can pick and choose to watch their favorite anglers on their private stream or they can watch B.A.S.S. and not miss the action. Me personally I don't like the commentary and all the interruptions of the broadcast. I watched Logan Parks stream and although not perfect NBT listened to us and made improvements during the tournament/feed. This could save Professional bass fishing, thanks to Logan Park & NBT.
Todd when you gonna come fish the potomac?. Be interested to hear your thoughts.
Stop fishing the spawn
Don’t put cameras on guys that are live scoping.
Seeing Bill Lowen win was freakin awesome but seeing Garrett throwing a Carolina rig up against a bulkhead and catching a big bag doing it was pretty cool. They had guys bed fishing and even ol G-Man was in the top 10 it was a pretty cool event to watch.
Awesome vid. Felt the same way watching.
One thing that I've been wondering is they mentioned in passing that Garret had a 40-minute penalty for take-off. Based on his bite window, that might have cost him the event! But they never said what the penalty was for. And I guess a few other guys got penalties and had take-off delays. I would love for BASS to make a post event press release to say who was issued penalties and for what. Hell, even include who got dead fish or late to weigh-in penalties. That should be standard every event.
Very much agree that this was a very interesting Elite tourney. Enjoyed it a lot. Nice to see most actually doing a lot of different things. Watching someone carolina rig was good. Maybe we can see a bit more of it.
The best was the pre-recorded shows they used to do with the Elite Series. They should have never stopped that
Thought it was the worst coverage I've ever seen from bassmaster . Half time show was a joke they talked over the fisherman it's was terrible but bill lowen was a great winner
I agree with your camera thoughts. It's more or less a crapshoot on the camera placement
I thought it was a home run as well. But I’m not sure the rest of the season will be as good.
Bass showed that the best way to offset livescope is schedule.
I'm never listening to ya'll picking the pros again
Garret was crankn a shell bed on a swing bank
Garrett was fishing an outside bend in a deep creek/river next to a bulkhead. Looked like it was by an old boat launch that was shut down. There was a shell bed on the high point (10' to 15') with 20' max depth. He was casting 15' to 25' parallel to the bulkhead to the shell bed. He first hung a good fish on a c rig that broke off when he set the hook. He said it was a big fish, he couldn't move it. He caught two good fish cranking within the hour. He stayed there till about noon, never getting a bite, but could see good fish following. He said he tried everything he knew of to get bit. I tried looking up the area on goggle earth, but could not find it. If the broadcast mentioned where he was, I missed it. Garrett, being able to see the fish on FFS, I would have never left. Of course, not knowing what everyone else is doing, it's hard to stay focused and sticking to your game plain. He did say early, he was going to stay there all day.
Very good tournament
Freezing cold
Friday. Fished Indian Mounds and ice came off my level spool like spaghetti. Wish I could share the video. Crazy
I just don't get why 1st place is a hundo and 2nd place is twenty. The pay scale seems off to me, sorry to derail the video but damn something is wrong with that. Highway robbery right there.
I don’t know how many guys tried live scoping but, I liked how BASS seemed to focus on a mix of guys doing multiple techniques. It will be interesting to see if BASS decides to put cameras in guys boats that are not using live scope and not catching fish.
I enjoyed the fishing and catching part, but I'm sorry the whole deal about not knowing where you stand relative to your competitors' bugs the hell out of me. There is not one other sport, team, or individual that you compete in and don't know where you stand unless it's poker, and I don't look at that as a sporting event.
Garret caught them on a crank bait, what was weird was Swindle scoped the whole tournament lol….i guess he used perspective mode !
Was happy to see Turtle get another win.
And RandyB, complained they were scoping bedding fish and would not have caught fish without it tournament fishing just can't please some people
