  1. I have a question for you Randy, do you think fishing pressure has pushed these fish out off the bank, or, are the FFS fishermen just tapping into that “90 percent” of fish that were always behind the bank fisherman as the old saying goes. All those years we wondered where did the truly big class of bass go, a lot where just suspending or hiding in plain sight relating to nothing. As an avid bass fisherman that does not fish tournaments, FFS provides some answers at time, but you know, I still love to fish they way I have for years and years.

  2. Its the "Backmasters Elite Series…. brought to you Lowrance……Hummingbird….Garmin… That would be funny if Mercer interviewed them all on stage at the weigh in, while they stood there backwards. God forbid if they turned around, no one would recognize them…"Who is that daddy, … well I don't know son, I can see his face.. I don't know…sorry kid." They all had to take their press pictures in the jersey standing backwards…lol

  3. The best thing about bass fishing is learning the fill on how to detect a bite. We get to sight fish during the spawn with our natural sight only. FFS is sniper fishing.

  4. These pros, Mlf, and B.A.S.S., are getting their pockets filled by Lowrance, Hummingbird, and Garmin. They are not gonna say anything negative about ffs. To them it’s the future of the sport. Personally, I wouldn’t be a member of either if you’re not actively fishing tournaments.

  5. It’s pitiful to watch on tv it sucks! I just don’t even watch it go to another channel its Bassmaster or MLF it sucks that’s not fishing. I’d rather watch regular people fishing it’s not fun to watch people watching a screen that’s not fishing.

  6. I want to say something for people to ponder. Pretend for a moment that the major tournament organizations ban FFS For all of the reasons we know are true. Then long time tournament anglers come out of the woodwork praising the decision knowing full well it was bad for the sport from the beginning. All goes back to normal and we get to see exciting fishing that we were used to. Everyone is happy about it. Is it a stretch to say that at that point Randy should be inducted into the Hall of Fame? I mean nobody carries this torch more than Randy.
I don’t see it happening but I commend you on the effort. Keep it up. Start a nation wide petition. Branch out from just youtube. Get the attention of people that are not connected to Tournament fishing. Get on your local news and work your way up.
Millikan recently had a guest on his show who paid 17 thousand bucks to go fishing with him. When he seen Ben catch his first fish he said “that should be illegal”
People are not stupid. Complaining to guys invested it wont get anything done. Go big!

  7. I commented to Dustin Connell that what if some old boy walked into bassmaster/mlf and offered them $10 million per year to sponsor but NO FFS allowed? He said, "It may shock you that it would take a lot more than that"…. WOW.. so I replied, "So you are admitting there is a number?" LOL. Heck, why wouldn't he be for ffs… he's made a fortune doing it!

  8. Thanks for putting out your YT videos! I am liking your advanced stuff, too, but I am finding it harder to catch. I am still on the fence about FFS. I am intrigued. I want' to try it. I hear good arguments on both sides. I am not seeing it as my top issue. I know you do see it that way. I must jump in and say that you are spot-on, and it came true to life 2X in the last 24 hours. The first time I noticed was Friday while watching B.M. Elites live on YouTube. Dude, you are so right so far. It just hasn't hit home, really hard, like it did today.

    1. I noticed that, even though some of the reports say the Toledo Bend spawn and the push to shallow is upon us, many of the Elites were fishing dead center at main lake. One of the guys missed a couple of casts and reeled in short and complained about it. He said LS makes it tough sometimes. He missed by a couple of inches. You sometimes must make an absolutely perfect cast. Then he realized he almost started drama without intending to so he began defending LS by giving the same ole spill about learning more (potentially correct) but it isn't perfect and you can't make them bite blah blah blah. There was a stark contrast between what he said and what he did. I know how I felt while watching him. His next move after catching a fish was to try to zero in with the LS to search for where his spot was. He complained that some of the other fishermen were getting a little close to his hole. The irony was that it was taking him forever to make another cast. He stood there at the bow with his back to the camera, and all I could thing was, "Well make another cast for crying out loud!" He absolutely would not cast or finish a cast unless he thought it was dead on target. All this after telling us LS isn't everything, and it is more about the structure and how challenging and frustrating the scope can be. All I could think was, "Ole Randy called it. Now I know I understand where he's coming from." Don't beat the guy down. He didn't mean to create more controversy and probably didn't realize the irony.

    2. It is my birthday. I didn't get to buy a boat last year like I wanted due to the cost of truck repairs so I was back to renting a jon boat and throwing a trolling motor on it at Toledo Bend. I am convinced this particular place I go is terrible for bass fishing. I hadn't been fishing in over a year. I was mainly giving this area the good ole college try in the heat of the summers from May to September. I scored a 7" Garmin and began learning to scan the area. Of course, I have limited reach at 3.2 mph max but I could go to other lakes and use the same lures and approach and catch some fish. I am also at the mercy of wind and waves. I was all over your summer shows for tips bc I know summers are particularly tough in 105 degree heat index. So, it had been so long since I went back but I had never fished there in the spring since I was a kid to 12 years old, the earlies memories being waking up in a tent to get my Easter basket at Toledo Bend and Lake O' the Pines. Umfufu, the wifey, decided she would put on shoes and go with me for my birthday and said we should stop in Bassmaster weigh-in while we are at it. Today, the battery for the graph didn't work because the battery must have croaked and didn't take a charge. I told her were going to do old school and I already know the general depth and layout. Pressure was extremely tough as there was literally three boats around every turn. The water is way up and I could hit areas and flats that were less than a foot deep in summers and unfishable. I was hitting grass and brush but still no fish. I told Umfufu, who was listening to an audio book while hiding her suffering, that I bought her three beautiful spinning rods and reels that would make a grown man jealous. They aren't top of the line but nobody would make fun of you for using them. Why haven't you gotten one wet yet? She replied, "Because it's more fun this time watching you actually fish instead of driving around looking at that screen." I mean, yeah, I gotta learn how to use it and try to follow what your friend Johnny taught me in his graphing videos. I fish like a mad man that can't be stopped, whatever the limitations, but the difference was plain to her. It was plain to me, too. I wanted to know if there were bait balls. I wanted some down and side scan to see if I was wasting time and energy. Our time was limited, and having two stents in my heart holding my ticker open, I may not have many spawning seasons left. I was pulling that spinnerbait through injuries and tendonitis. It was good thing I had a low gear ratio reel. I wasted nothing. I was an excellent 52nd birthday out fishing and seeing the bald eagle was icing on the cake.

    3. I just thought of third instance. A high school 60 miles down the road wants a covered football and practice facility. Many of the kids today comment that it is just to hard to fit all teams like football and track plus the band into scheduling its use. The kids complain it is just too hard to practice in the heat or rain. They want a tax proposal passed. What????? A high school of kids whining they don't have an indoor football field? Why should anyone do anything that's too hard? These kids today…

Use it or not but I can't see how the use of FFS and throwing that bore on the tube live helps anyone like the average Joe or the kids to learn and love a great American pastime like fishing. It doesn't instill skills, the effort, the time spent with friends and family, or the values I learned in the place I grew up, Sportsman's Paradise, LA. The young folks seem to think "having an app for that" and using it is an accomplishment. it depends on what you are chasing. Success is to them is winning a tournament and cashing a check. It is fools gold. It is like cheating at solitaire! I still watch Jimmy Houston. Rick Clun is still out there. Roland Martin and Bill Dance, too. You are teaching us something. Johnny Shultz is too. I like Mikey Balzz and FishingHQ, too. Yes, I watch Milliken's videos. I like those also. I watched the old guys on Saturdays from a trailer camp parked at Huxley Bay, Toledo Bend back when I was learning to cast my first Daiwa Gold Cast as a young boy. You guys add value to the game. When they old guys are gone, I don't see these young guys passing anything down. They are chasing the glitter. They want sponsors, their name on a package of lures, and a little fame. It is cheap, and pros like that seem to be a dime a dozen. Even the TV is cheap. I am not buying a package of glorified crappie jigs for fun because I saw some dude's rear end at the bow of his boat staring at a screen and refusing to cast until he can point his scope at a target. I have no motivation to imitate that.

Oh, and I didn't miss the fact that the Elites are trying to make a point of some new, mysterious discovery at Toledo Bend this week. The bass on scans are showing up holding above the bait and not below it like you might expect. They keep repeating it. It is just creepy enough that it sounds like national political media today, and I am skeptical. If there is something to it, fine, but it doesn't change my thoughts in points 1 and 2 or the cheating at solitaire thing. I would still maybe like to try it but not just to watch my lure hit the water on a screen. Down and side scan are fine for me. I just need to know what structure and cover is available at a place and are there fish and bait balls in the area? I can see turtles. I know they are bad luck for me, meaning hot, dead water.

  9. The problem is there is no evidence to support your claim that it hurts the lake.

Maybe there will be one day but not today.

Until you have proof, you are just complaining.

Maybe if you joined them, you would win. But i guess you have enough money and like to lose. Why do you keep entering tournaments if, according to you, an FFS person will always win. Sounds like you are throwing your money away.

  10. Spotting lighting Deer is illegal and Spotlighting Bass or any game fish should also be illegal on our lakes. I see more tournament pros on YouTube voicing their dislike of FFS.Keep up the good fight Randy. You have my support.

  11. We are use to it , u have got to quit putting the same ol same ol on Randy , we all realize this , untill viewership drop dramalically , its not going to change randy , everyone that cares about what we view stand together and quit watching all together, it will never change, as far as the seasoned pros taking a stand, its not going to happen, because they are not going to take food out of there kids mouth RANDY ,

  12. The hunting side of fish and game got in front of technology very quickly. You can’t use drones to hunt or scout, in Alaska you can’t hunt the same day you fly. Why did they get ahead of it so quickly? Because hunting has always managed efficacy. It if is going to damage the resource, it gets managed. FFS is an underwater drone. It’s hunting the same day you fly. The fishing side needs to catch up.

  13. I respect Randy for his accomplishments and care for the sport/environment but he has yet to provide a legitimate study on the impact of toward facing technology. But he didn’t turn away mapping when it came out, down or side imaging… yes maybe live sonar is more aggressive but you still have to imply skill to make it work. The best anglers in the world are even admitting it’s a learned utility. And there’s no viable proof it is hurting bass fisheries. I think; unfortunately Randy is just mad he can’t win anything anymore. Which is sad because he’s skilled and his knowledge would crush small local tournaments somewhere but the most successful people regardless of the field their in will decline if they don’t keep up with the advancements and will be superseded by those who do. If he hates it so much then don’t fish until you can LEGITIMATELY prove it’s detrimental and not just hey I think it does… sure abuse of harvesting is bad but regardless how they caught them and kept over their limit why isn’t being enforced?? I’m sure Randy has done well jacking fish off beds… that’s way worse

  14. Nailed it! Can already predict great fishermen like Swindle, Hackney, Feider, BP, Benton, Christie, Gross and a few more big names can pretty much plan on being replaced by 19 year olds starring at electronics because they will be finishing in bottom 50 most of the tournaments.
Would love to see how these young guys would do if they took FFS away for just one tournament! We know what would happen!

  15. last i heard they are selling less and less fishing licenses per year, i would like to see solid numbers instead of just feelings.. not anything against your gripe but a lot of time real data helps make a case. like i want to see the numbers and weights of all tournaments since beginning of it all.. and compare to the catch rate of today with livescope. i dont think its as big a deal as you think.. the bass arent like other fish.. i fished crystal clear water where you can see them and actively fish for fish you see. you think that is a bonus.. you are wrong. ive spend 5 hours trying to catch the biggest bass ive ever seen and she never hit my bait once. ran up to it many many times ect.. but always pulled back.. its not the ultimate advantage people think it is. oh so and so caught big bag… well when hasnt that happened at any tournament what you arent recognizing i believe is all the people in that same tournament who spend hours upon hours and only caught one or two seeing fish in each spot they cast… i can almost bet money the data almost proves livescope hasnt changed things much overall .. with catch rates.. or bags caught. if you average it all. wait till you learn that only some bass will only bit at night because throughout the day is all the tournaments and they know eating at night they will never be caught.

  16. Thank You Randy for having the courage to take a stand as a pro angler . I would like to add my support with a perspective from a non- professional lifetime angler. I also have followed Bassmaster and pro fishing since the early 70's. I live in West Virginia and like most fans of the sport who work blue collar jobs 6 or 7 days a week could only dream of fishing some of these places. We are usually still snowed in here in the mountains when the B.A.S.S. season starts and always watched the classic and other tournaments while preparing my gear for spring. I've learned so much from pro's like you Randy, KVD, Davy H. Denny B. Larry N. and others. I have also quit watching someone starring down at a screen and listing to commentary trying to make that sound interesting. Another side of this that is also ruining fishing on a local level and may be overlooked. I've seen friends and co-workers spend 20 to 30 thousand dollars on electronics ,shallow water anchors and other accessories on a already very expensive boat trying to emulate the pro's and compete in local club and weekend tournaments. I may also be old school but I love fishing and will keep my eyes up and on the beauty of nature God has surrounded me with while on the water.
