Professional BASS angler JT Thompkins was disqualified after he failed a truth verification examination. JT Thompkins is a professional bass tournament angler from Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and won Angler of the Year in 2023.
BASS released this statement: Elite Series angler JT Thompkins has been disqualified from the Humminbird Bassmaster Elite Series at St. Lawrence River for failure to pass a truth verification examination. As a result of JT Thompkins disqualification, Thompkins will receive zero points toward Progressive Bassmaster Angler of the Year and Dakota Lithium Elite Series Rookie of the Year standings. The truth verification exam was administered during the event Friday, and Thompkins failed to pass exam sections that pertain to Rule C3 ii a and Rule C3 (xiv). Rule C3 ii a states anglers “cannot gather waypoints or specific fishing locations i.e. creek, river, area of the lake, etc. from any source that is not publicly available.”

FFS has ruined professional bass fishing. I’ve watched Bassmaster on TV since it started and now I’ll only watch it if it’s on 2 of my local lakes. It’s became hunting instead of fishing when you can watch fish in real time and follow them.
Good video dieter,JT and Trey McKinney have both been disqualified during a tournament, I think I heard JT got disqualified for sharing information, heck that's a fine line, Did he tell another angler where he was fishing or did he tell someone what lure and color he was using, I look forward to hearing what really went on. Those guys were fishing for a lot of money, not to mention sponsorship money. Did you hear Gman explain what happened during a tournament earlier this year , when he had to call out an angler. I do not believe in polygraphs as its a proven fact that they are not 100% reliable and should not be relied upon as a single point of evidence, hence the reason they are not allowed in a (USA) court of law.
However, the participants in this and many other fishing tournaments are aware that the tournament rules allow for the use of a polygraph as a means to determine (and deter) cheating and they agreed to its use by participating. Some tournaments require a polygraph for ALL money winners as standard practice.
I don't know if its fair or not but anecdotal evidence would suggest that cheating in fishing tournaments was reduced significantly when the mere threat of a polygraph test was introduced into the rules. Its Sad but when money is involved someone is going to cheat if they think they can get away with it.

I watch some Kayak Catfishing tournaments and they go by length not weight, they have a specific gps id tag for each fisherman!

A poly test is not the ‘rigid ruler’ to keep bass tourney fishing honest. They aren’t reliable enough yet. This is unfortunate and will only paint bass tournament fishing in a negative light.
