In this episode of Pro Secrets Exposed, I talk the recent announcement by MLF (Major League Fishing) in regards to the format change for 2025. They are officially dropping the field to 50 anglers and going back to catch-weigh-release format. I have a few opinions on this matter and I hate that the anglers have been put in such a crappy situation. This fishing tip series will post everydayish until I can’t do it anymore! 1. The reason they went to 5 fish is because Wheeler couldn't be beat in that format they even talked about it on his podcast. Now it looks like he whined enough to get it back. 😂😂😂 He's a great dude and I'm just spitting conspiracy

  2. I can understand to an extent that the MLF is bleeding money and viewership, but this complete crap. Look at guy's like Matt Stefan that are going to get totally screwed. A guy fishes his whole career to get there and only has one chance to do it.

  3. Hi Andrew,

I have been on the professional pool tour 20 years and yes I’ve been extremely fortunate and blessed to win every major I ever dreamed but pool and fishing are both typically boring to watch which is the core issue.

In my career I’ve had FOUR different promoters/brands that tried to start a professional tour. They ALL promised the moon, we’re gonna be stars, we’re gonna be rich and we never have to worry about job security again.

In all reality none of this was the case. They were all just companies trying to make it and in order to do so needed the big names playing for them.

I guess my point is, I know deep down you’re not surprised with this and neither am I. MLF is just another business trying to make it and trying to figure out how to fit in.

Fortunately for myself I’m now hired as a commentator for Sky Sports which owns the WNT or world nineball tour by Matchroom Pool. I feel for these guys that aren’t going to make it because I DO DEFINITELY understand what they’ve risked and put into getting there. It’s definitely sad but it’s also as they say (just business) which sucks.

Our tour will live coverage to the final 16 FREE but then, they have to pay on either DAZN or PPV so they have pretty good income there. They are also great at their YouTube channels Matchroom Pool and Matchroom Multisport.

Maybe check it out, because I’ve talked to the executives about how close professional pool has compared to professional fishing.

  4. You brought up a lot of good points but I personally think that forward facing sonar or Livescope is part of why there views are stagnate and the reason I say that is cause it's boring watching someone staring at a screen and not using there skills were the average everyday angler could possibly pick up some secrets and technique instead of watching them watch a screen playing a video game basically I don't know just my thoughts and opinion

  5. Great stuff. Sorry with ya till the end!!! Finally someone with the stones to call a spade a spade. Elite coverage sucks anymore. Ray Scott is rolling in his grave right now because his baby isn’t worth watching anymore. MLF should have left well enough alone and like the old saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Pure GREED!!! Your da best.

  6. Boyd Duckett is working the system to make it easier to win a tournament. How is Duckett not in the bottom 15 in points on the BPT? He's always in the bottom of the standings.

  7. All LIVE content creators SHORT or LONG format need to take notes from successful LIVE format channels. Those that figure out the LONG FORMAT niché will make it. I Watched to the end… 🤣🍺🎣

  8. That means MLF is struggling… Good chance this will breathe new life into NPFL… 🍺🎣
B.A.S.S. has anchored itself with its improved format with the ELITES and Opens getting more LIVE exposure.
MLF is punishing anglers for 1 poor year. #SadStateWeAreIn

  9. I think the industry is going to implode. Too much fast growth over recent years. Factors- Regardless of what the media tells us about the economy being in a good state, is just a crock. Spending is way down and adverisers are rolling back their budgets. About the changes- MLF finally got it dialed in and now have train wrecked it. I can't take the politics in pro bass fishing anymore. I'm just done. People are just getting burnt out with watching live fishing. It's not the format. The sport is just way too expensive. Even as a weekend dog fight angler, it's gotten way to expensive.

  10. MLF will be dissolved or bought out by 2026. Duckett and that cheating, lying group deserve it. All the rules changes, blatant cheating and lying by numerous guys i USED to respect alot. And now these rookies get 1 year. And fields cut in half almost. Yep i fully expect MORE cheating to happen. I should add, i feel horrible for guys that have worked their ass off and juat get kicked to the curb. Its horrible.

  11. If I paid pre entry under the assumption of 10 spots, then they announced only 5 spots, I think it would be reasonable to get at least half my entry fees back. Or the option of a refund. Deceptive garbage like this will kill the tournament trail. On second thought,…. that might not be a bad thing.

  12. Mlf gamble was turning fishing into golf veiwership and money and it failed. What we are seeing now is money being tight and not shut the whole thing down

  13. Really its not that bad, will the change affect some of the current bpt guys, absolutely. However if were being honest the bottom 40% of the bpt guys have next to no shot re-qualifying via the invitationals or making the elites through the opens. They just aren't tour level competitors anymore. Its a different game now and for the most part the young guys are better. Things I do like are the live coverage of the team series, Toyota championship and All-America. The shorter bpt events will be nice too, 6 days was too long, I lost interest by the end. Hopefully the small field will let them hit some cool places they couldn't go to with a bigger field.
